I think Eugene is a fascinating character, more so recently, even though most people would say he took a step back in development which I don't disagree with, I have this particular ''somewhat'' realistic view of him. The way he says that he just can't deal with having to be in another lineup again is something that I feel a person like him would react even after coming around temporarily.
He doesn't love the idea of being there, but he does love the idea of being safe, and let's be completely honest, him escaping would be a very not intelligent thing to do for a character like Eugene atleast in the current war preparation situation.
Nevertheless, I hope he comes around, and starts to sabotage slowly from the inside, with the help (and encouragement) from Dwight, hopefully without costing him his life, now that would be a waste of some really good development.
