Hi guys, I'm a fan of listing and ranking stuff, so I would like to know how would you rank the seasons so far. For me, it goes as follows, from worst to best:
Season 2: I think every season of Breaking Bad improves from the last. But I do think season 2 of BCS is weaker than its predecessor. The pacing is off, there are several episodes which mainly setup later events, without feeling fulfilling in their own right. Some main characters suffer from lack of drive (Jimmy in Davis&Main, Mike providing for her sister-in-law), which makes the season feel especially slow. On the other hand, this season introduced Hector, one hell of an antagonist.
Season 1: While season 2 is clearly in the bottom for me, the difference between seasons 1 and 3 is much tighter. Season 1 is more self-contained, while season 3 is clearly branching towards Breaking Bad. But in the end, I opted for season 1 in the second place. I love it. The dynamic between Jimmy and Chuck is interesting for the get-go, and the reveal of Chuck-sabotage is heart-breaking. The drive of Jimmy trying to make it in the big law world doesn't let up, even when they change storylines from Kettlemans and Mike trouble to Sandpiper.
Season 3: The main weak point of the season, for me, is that it starts to rely on Breaking Bad references too much. Other than that, it's a great ride when series long storylines start to pay off. Chuck and Howard falling off, Hector vs Nacho. And we got Gus, and he doesn't feel completely tacked on thanks to the dynamic between him and Hector and Mike. The episode Chicanery deserves a special mention.
