Why did Jimmy go back on the Irene and SP thing?

Maybe I missed something but why exactly did Jimmy turn around and essentially gave up the 1.2 million that he worked for through turning Irenes friends against her? I understand he had tried to fix it but nothing worked beforehand but he just seemed too willing or accepting of the fact that he had to expose himself and ruin his payday to make her friends with the other residents again. It felt like the decision was made too suddenly and out of nowhere. He didn't sulk or ponder about the decision at all, he just kinda told Kim that he knows what he's gotta do.

Regardless, I feel like the writing decision for him to go back on the thing at all was a mistake. Jimmy pretty much had a million dollars in his hands, just like with the kettlemans. And after he turned in the kettleman money the show made big point of showing how much Jimmy regretted it and how "next time nothings stopping him". The whole Irene settlement plotline seemed like the perfect way to show him delving into what we know as Saul Goodman and tie the whole thing back to Jimmy's first brush with serious cash. Wasted opportunity for sure.
