I love the TV Show, despite season 8 not being great, I still loved the show, it was once my favorite work of fiction ever, but then season 8 hit, and then 2 years passed and I stepped away from the world of a song of ice and fire. Until, last month I saw the collection of the 5 books on sale and....
The books are simply better than the show, like even though Season 1 and AGOT are very similar, the books goes a step beyond.
-The lore is infinitely better in AGOT, the book talks about the tower of joy, Arthur Dayne, the Children of the Forest and the origin of westeros, the others and their introduction is also better. Robert's rebellion is more detailed, Essos feels richer. The world is just leagues better in the books.

Characters like Jon, Dany, Ned, Robert, Viserys, Sansa, Robb, Catelyn, Arya, and even Drogo are better in the books in my opinion. Mostly because of the extra content, for example, the information about Viserys on the streets with Dany, makes his character way better. The information about Ned and Robert's past raises their characters, Arya's chapters are amazing and the moment she escapes the red keep make her character greater. Sansa's last chapter made love her character even more. Jon has way more emotion and humanity (Kit Harrington never convinced me to be honest.)

Some differences in the story are very well appreciated, examples are: The Battle of the Whispering Woods is better in the books, the castles are better in the books, Drogo's death is better in the books, Jon escaping the night's watch is better, and many more.
I absolutely loved A Game of Thrones and I've never been more in love with the world of Ice and Fire. I just started reading a Clash of Kings and the prologue is already a 10/10, I can't wait to see how the books go different directions from the show.
