[Spoilers] Distilling each character down to one quote?

Rewatching and thought to myself, what's the one quote that exemplifies a character though out the series.

Ned - I kept my promise.

Cersei - I choose violence.

Jaime - The things I do for love.

House Mormont by Lyanna - We are not a large house, but a proud one.

What are your thoughts on this matter?

[Spoilers] Honest thoughts about my 1st re-watch of the series

I first saw the series on original airtime during the weekly episodes. There was too much hype back then. I was in college and it was always the trend both in-person and on stupid twitter. Although disappointed about the way it ended then, I thought it's pointless to be emotional about the show. I know I'll have to find the time to binge-watch it nonstop. For me, it's always the first re-watch that clarifies everything to avoid any bias popular reaction. Fast forward, first re-watch just finished.

First, all I can say is f*** the entire crew who wrote the storyline to kill Daenerys. Not only it was f-in stupid but it has also weakened JON Snow's character by making him kill her. Also, F** whoever decided the storyline for Daenerys to burn the city. Was that even on the books? (If it has come out yet?) OK I get it, After the long night, Daenerys was a bit anxious about Jon's claim to the iron throne. She lost another Dragon on the way. More importantly, how she loss Missandei. I understand all these losses were tough. However, imagine this, she loss Khal Drogo, Ser Jorah, She's dealt with great losses. She also unchained countless slaves, she's used to losing people on her side but her actions was never been burning an entire city with tens of thousands innocent children/parents. So PLEASE TELL ME: How in the world, is Danny SUDDENLY capable of murdering children, innocents, and burning the city? That's an outlier. Maybe the writers thought they can carry people's emotions away by giving the khaleesi some tough deaths, so suddenly she can burn an entire city. However if you follow Dannie from szn 1-7 you know that she isn't capable of such actions.

Here's my point:

----> Analyzing Danny's mindset from her prior losses, she's not capable of this murderous villainous & wickedness tyranny. These are traits that she SUDDENLY have.. IT WAS 3 STANDARD DEVIATIONS FROM HER NORM. How the f- do the directors writers and producers come up with this sh- that Danny has to burn each and everyone on Kings Landing. That was a huge mistake. From Szn 1-7 Danny wasn't capable of that, then suddenly she's a f-in monster?

Second, you can tell me it's because she's the direct daughter of the mad king,& biological traits kicked in. <-- This also cannot be justified because HER REIGN HASN'T EVEN BEGUN. She's so young so that argument is debunked. Call her mad queen, depressed, whatever you want, but that is poor reasoning. There's no way that Daenerys become a murderer overnight. She's been through terrible things way before Missandei's execution. It seems to me that the writers sabotage her role completely.

I'm also quite annoyed that JON SNOW can't f-in make a damn decision, he was second guessing and he was unsure how to respond to Danny. He'll spit out lines like "You will always be my Queen". He was doubting himself at the exact moment when he needed to just MAN THE F- UP. It's f-in clear that he loves her, then ends up FAILING her anyway. He didn't have to tell anyone. Daenerys even begged her. So they're related, so what? never stopped other Targaryens before.

That being said, not only they've ruined Daenerys character, the've also softened John's character. I'm quite certain but maybe they want a good arc for the 3 Starks because they've also all suffered terrible experiences in the series. Now all 3 have their happy ending. OK I CAN RESPECT THAT. Good for the Starks. However, that was all still possible without Daenerys dying.

I'm not even a fan of Daenerys but what I do know is the writers ruined her character on szn 8, I'm sure of that. In the process, they've also weakened Jon Snow's character. I was a fan of Cersei and how Cersei stayed true to herself until her dying moments. I think she's rly ruthless. Cersei is capable of murdering an entire kingdom if she has to. Dannie is not but they made her that way.

What the writers have done to Khaleesi was unnecessary. She isn't a killer, we all know it. A lot of characters died on this show and they probably deserve it. Ramsay Bolton, Euron Greyjoy, Baelish, I have a long "Arya Stark" list of these f-in names and they deserve to be burned, beheaded, fed to the hounds.

Khaleesi did not deserve to die.

F- who wrote her story. I have the look on Grey Worm's face while I'm typing this.

I'm on season 6 now and I've noticed something annoying with the lighting on the show. A lot of the time for me when a scene takes place at night or in a darkly lit place it's hard to see what's happening. I don't know if it's intentionally done but it makes following things difficult. I don't think it's me or my TV since I don't have this problem with other shows and movies.

I should say that most of the time the show still looks fantastic.

Warrior (HBO Max) is a must-watch

I just finished Episode 5, Season 1 and it was one of the best episodes of a tv show I’ve seen in a while. The episode itself is a classic western stagecoach vignette consisting of strangers traveling to California. It could easily stand to be watched on its own without any context. But it is well worth watching the show in its entirety. Warrior is extremely underrated. The entire show unravels its story marvelously. As a warning, it is quite gory. I haven’t seen a dull episode yet. If you enjoyed Deadwood or just like good television, check this one out. If you don’t have this show on your radar, I hope it’s there now. Enjoy!

So I’m a little drunk but I gotta say how good A Game of Thrones is dawg. The passage where Ned describes how Stannis survived a siege from the Tyrells for 2 years, surviving on rats and leather totally changed my opinion of Stannis. It goes way deeper than the show could have even if the first season is a pretty loyal adaption. That is all.

[No Spoilers] Developing GOT mod for HOI4

Hello again Reddit, I am here once more asking for your help. As previously stated, I'm making a Game of Thrones mod for Heart's of Iron IV based on the story as written by GRRM.

I am looking for people who would be interested in helping me develop this mod. There are no particular requirement, apart from a knowledge of the written story (rather than the HBO adaption) and Heart's of Iron IV's mechanics. If you'd be interested in helping me, then you can contact me via Discord (Nutzee#0231). I do not check my reddit messages very often, so Discord is the best place to contact me.

You don't need to know much about modding, as we also need people who can write lore, make artwork, generate ideas, etc...

It will absolutely surprise you. The writing is outstanding. It might be Zach Galifianakis's best work, and it has to be Louie's. You'll never look at Arby's the same way. You'll never look at Costco the same way. You might not even recognize yourself when you're done.

When you think about it Jaime didn't have much choice when it came to his last encounter with the mad king. He could've either killed the king and broke his oath (which he ended up doing), running from the army and soldiers that were coming for the mad king (which would've labeled him as a coward for the rest of his life), or he could've fought for the king until he lost his life (which especially makes no sense as it was the Lannister army that was marching on the king), I mean he was in a lose-lose-lose situation right?

TWD S11 Poll - Spoilers within

TWD Season 11 - Reapers vs Commonwealth Poll

So I’m just wondering. I’m currently on S11E4, and noticed the Reapers are a… major part of this story. But here’s the thing (and I’m assuming most people know this)

The Reapers are some of the major villains to not have a comic counterpart. Even the Wolves, Termites, Claimers, etc all have counterparts. The only other one is those copsat the hospital.

In my opinion, the Reapers are very boring, and I only look up from my phone whenever Eugene’s group is with the Commonwealth, since as a bigger fan of the comics, that’s what I’m interested in. But there’s not a lot of action in that arc, something I’m assuming show fans prefer.

So I just want to ask you r/TheWalkingDead users, please answer this poll and let me know if you prefer the show or comics, and Maggie’s Reapers arc or Eugene’s Commonwealth arc?

Edit: holy shit I looked up and do not know the context but the guy looks exactly like Walter White I may have to back up a little bit. I’ll be curious to see these results and edit this post with an update!!

Inconsistency in season 11? Can’t find an explanation anywhere

When the reapers first show up they are all wearing masks. Then Leah takes off her mask and we never see a reaper wearing a mask again? What happened to the reapers being these ruthless masked maniacs who suicide themselves when captured? It just seems like a completely different group once Daryl is captured and we see them from the inside. Why don’t they put on masks for any of their other fights?

[SPOILERS] Brandon Stark as the King of Seven Kingdoms

Every starter wanted Eddard Stark to be the King of Westeros. After Eddard, his pure-blood sons are Robb, Brandon, Rickon. As, Robb and Rickon died, only Brandon is the only Stark. And, I don't know why the audience isn't happy about Brandon Stark being King. Yeah, Bran do call introduce himself as 'The Three Eyed Raven', but he IS the only pure-blood Stark, son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. POV: Sansa married to a Lannister and Bolton. And, Arya, well, she's an assassin. So, she's better commander than Queen of Westeros.

[NO SPOILERS] It's so much fun to read old speculation posts from the early seasons.

I just stumbled upon this post from May 2012 where people were speculating that Viggo Mortensen would be perfect as Mance Rayder.

It makes me smile to read these. Discussion was so rich, GoT wasn't yet the massive TV titan that it became, and nobody knew how well the show would interpret the books. Little did they know we would get Caesar himself (Ciaran Hinds) to play Mance.

[SPOILERS] Similarities between Dune and GoT

I read the book Dune many many years ago back in college and although it always stood out in my mind as a phenomenal book, the details got fuzzy over time.

Watching the new movie last week suddenly made me realize how much Frank Herbert's work influenced GRRM.

The Houses of Atreides and Stark are incredibly similar in philosophy and Leto and Ned are almost interchangeable in how honorable, inspiring, courageous etc they are.

The fates of Paul and Daenerys also overlap a lot - both barely escape while their House is shattered and find themselves in a new environment where a society that is structured around power and survival with fierce warriors adopts and supports them and both find their way back to vengeance by gaining special powers.

I haven't delved into further details about parallels but GoT being much fresher in my mind I suddenly found similarities very obvious.

Bloodriders or supposed to live and die with their Khal. But, if the Khal is killed by an enemy, then they are to avenge their Khal, and then they are to die. Dany named all her Dothraki me her Bloodriders, so what happened? I’m just lost. Did I miss something?

Which TV show have you spent the most time watching (or rewatching)?

Last night I found myself wondering which TV show I've spent the most hours of my life watching and concluded it's probably the Stargate series with 214eps of SG1, 100 of Atlantis and 40 of Universe.

For my mum it would be EastEnders at 3 eps a week for about 16 years.

What about you? Which show have you spent the most time watching to date?

[NO SPOILERS] It is STILL possible to love the show!

I see so many posts here from first time viewers who ask the question 'should I continue on to season 8?' This is usually in relation to other people discouraging the watching of that season because it was 'oh so awful'. I think as a REAL fan, you should encourage a first timer to form their OWN opinion about where the show ended up. I also believe that any one who claims season 8 'ruined' the ENTIRE series for them, are not true fans. You can be disappointed or even upset at the decisions the show makers made (we are all entitled to our feelings) but why would you say that the entire show was ruined? Surely there are things to love about the series on the whole...the master class level of acting, the scenery, the music, the costuming...I can go on and on about the excellence of Game of Thrones. The negativity about season 8 is just too much at times. The season had its flaws and was indeed rushed at times but there were moments to be enjoyed.

{Comic Spoiler} It's crazy to think that even after everything that happened between them, Rick still dug up Shane's body to put him to rest for good.

I was thinking about this today for some reason. When Rick realized that Shane had probably reanimated in his grave, he went way out of his way to dig the body up and put Shane to rest. Despite the turbulent family situation and Shane going way off the deep end, Rick still did him a postmortem solid.

[SPOILERS] just finished watching the show...

i binged through the entire show in about over a week. and watching the final two episodes i am so frustrated i don't even know what to think. so im just gonna put my thought down here i guess.

watching dany burn down the whole city for about 40 mins straight was one of the most frustrating things I've had to do. i really liked her up until a certain point, and then suddenly couldn't stand her decisions

jaime and cersie dying hand in hand was sort of poetic, but damn jaime deserved better. if only he wasn't so consumed by his love for her

bran being named king?? out of everyone sitting there he has the least experience in leadership. forget leadership, my man barely even talks. his visions would make him a good advisor, but definitely not king

the dragon melting down the throne made me giggle lol

jon marching north with the wildlings made me sad. after all the wars he fought, everything he's been through, felt like he deserved better

tyrion, arya, jon and jaime remained my favourites at the end. what about y'all?

Do people still miss the era around 2011 and 2013 where The Walking Dead was a massive big hit that's also placed next to the Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad?

I'm not complaining that The Walking Dead was no longer popular than it was before based on lower ratings and viewership. I'm just having a nostalgic moment where everyone on social media was talking about it and memes related to that show were dominating all the forums. It was also very common for people to bring up scenes from the Walking Dead first and foremose when people start talking about anything related to pop culture the same way people bring up certain scenes from the Breaking Bad or scenes from GOT (before it got ruined by the final season). I wish I got into it early ,but I was having doubt because it was just another zombie series which I find boring ,but it's one of my favorite shows of all time now. Do you feel the same way?

The lack of interests is atleast understandable in my opinion. The way they killed off many of the important main characters is something that pissed people off about the GOT ,but TWD multiplied it to 1000x. Of course it will result in lower ratings and viewership compared to before. Do you also think the final season of TWD will gurantee that the show will be remembered the same way people remembered Breaking Bad?

Watching Seinfeld for the first time and I can now see why people says It's Always Sunny is Seinfeld on crack.

Never watched Seinfeld growing up but since it was put onto Netflix I've been giving it a good watch. I've always seen people say that It's Always Sunny is Seinfeld on crack and I wasn't getting that much during the early seasons of Seinfeld but now that I'm halfway through season 5 I can 100% see the comparision.

The characters on Seinfeld become big time selfish and assholes but to a far lesser degree of the characters from IASIP. They all so terrible, especially when it comes to relationships and for personal gain.

[SPOILERS] Is it still worth watching if I know the ending?

I finally started Game of Thrones. I got to episode 9 and when Danaerys went into labor, I was confused as I did not feel that 9 months had passed. So I Googled ”Game of Thrones Season 1 Timeline” and one of the very first results had the header ”7 or 8 years pass between the pilot and Jon Snow being crowned King of the North.” I was so angry that I cried because this was the first show to resonate with me since I was younger and I was really enjoying it. Is it still worth watching?

Legends of the Hidden Temple Reboot (CW)

The original Nickelodeon Legends of the Hidden Temple was my favorite show as a kid, so you can imagine how excited I was when I heard new episodes -- now involving adult contestants -- would be aired starting this month. I watched the first new reboot episode (https://www.cwtv.com/shows/legends-of-the-hidden-temple/the-maya-legend-of-the-hero-twins/?play=c70d460a-a3ac-4048-b941-769eb511b91e) and enjoyed the nostalgia, but honestly I gotta say all the cutting back and forth between the real action and separately-filmed clips of the contestants talking (mostly distracting garbage, artificially commentating on their own performance) was terrible and took away from the focused thrill of the games. Like seriously, introducing the players at the start and letting them talk a bit about their backgrounds is fine (adds a personal touch, but not too much), but interspersing their edited-in talking scenes with the main live action of the games adds zero value and is so annoying! It's just a filler to extend the show to 1 hour instead of 30 min! I would love to see some edited episodes with all the filler talking cut out. It's literally the only thing stopping me from continuing to watch upcoming episodes.

Fans of the original Legends of the Hidden Temple -- 90s kids especially -- what do you think? Sorry for the long rant, just needed to share my thoughts.

EDIT: Also, can anyone comment on the quality of the videos of original (Nickelodeon) Legends episodes on Dailymotion (free) vs Paramount+ (subscription)? If the Paramount+ ones are higher quality, I will consider getting a subscription for old times' sake!

[SPOILERS] My closet friend just tested our friendship with the ending discussion…

So I’m super close to my friend and we’re having a few drinks and randomly bring up books and I talk about the ending of GOT. We’ve lived together for a long time and been passionate about the show and books so I figured we would have the same opinions which we did.

Fast forward I bring the show up randomly because we’re discussing which shows came to a disappointing end. Now I have read all books and watched the show and we watched it all together but he randomly says ‘I was satisfied with the ending and the characters and how they ended there journeys and all good things have to come to an end’.

Now I get that in life but there was so many things wrong with what he said that it started to boil my blood and we got in an argument. He just didn’t agree with me that the 6+ year character development was just abruptly ended suddenly and major characters were killed off with no explanation. We watched evil Joffrey killed and were satisfied and Ramsay Bolton got what he deserved for his ultimate evil.

But you’re telling me you’re satisfied with the most evil character of all time (Cersei) and the development of her character being killed in a pile of rubble? And BAM it’s gone, it’s done.

Ayra killed the Night King and then that was it, there was no development of the Children of the Forest. Bran became fucking King and it was just left at that. Khalessai is just evil now.

However my friend thinks it was a great conclusion that needed to happen and that it made space for spin off’s. The only spin off’s they’re capitalizing on are from the past. They should have made the ending better. It was rushed.

I think they built so many years of great character development and ruined it in the last season. It may be an unpopular opinion but I couldn’t go to bed agreeing with what he said. There were so many unanswered questions and I get a story runs it’s course but I don’t want to watch 10 new seasons of a medical drama.

They should have concluded with a better ending and I’m still bitter about it.

Everyone knows the parallel of Rick and Carl looking in the car at the dead person in 1x1 and 8x1 respectively.

Lori also looks at a dead person who is in the same position from the same angle.

Cool parallel between a family.

What are your unpopular TWD opinions?

(Some spoilers through season 8 below)

Some of mine are that -Season 3 is kind of frustrating/not enjoyable

-Seasons 9 and 10, while not perfect, are very good and it’s fun seeing them surviving in the long term

-The Whisperers are one of the most interesting and well-written enemies

-Even though I think Negan should’ve been killed after season 8, I’m glad they didn’t do it just because he has made the show more fun. The character didn’t deserve to keep living but he makes for good TV. So whatever.

-I don’t mind that they didn’t explore “smart zombies” any further than season 1. It could’ve been cool but considering the walkers are dead, I prefer them being unable to think or remember.

What about you?

This is inspired from something I just noticed on an old ASX video on youtube. Though for the general concept, it could be any of the 7, not just the northmen. I mean, "Wexit" does seem to be sitting right there, but I feel like that leaves too much of one part out.

So far I came up with "Shoulda Lefteros".

S1 walkers

What if they kept the S1 walkers abilities and they weren’t dumbed down. How would the show play out with those walkers, who were much tougher to deal with. Were they going to be weakened off eventually because of attrition? I mean, enough people died because of walker attacks, some were straight silly like Carl. I think to keep the S1 walkers, their numbers would have to have been reduced.

Edit: I’m referring to early walkers, up till s2 I believe then they were toned down.

We all know Flanderization, but are there any examples of De-Flanderization ?

I've been catching Brooklyn 99 on TV recently out of order, and started getting the feeling that Hitchcock & Skully; who in the first seasons were basically bordering on mentally challenged, but in the later seasons that got toned down a bit, and their character focused more on them being just incredibly lazy.

So that got me thinking about other examples of characters that start off ridiculous and exaggerated, but get mellowed out to a more believable character, getting De-Flanderized essentially.

What springs to mind?

Only Murders in the Building just wrapped up a fantastic first season

This show has quickly become my comfort show. Steve Martin and Martin Short are still so unbelievably funny. Selena Gomez is so cute in this and held her own (comedic wise) against Steve and Martin.

The “who dun it?” story was really well done, with surprising plot twists and a satisfying ending. It’s not the SINGLE GREATEST SHOW EVER, but it really was such a great show overall, and it excelled at what it was trying to be.

Also, tremendous acting from Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan. I can’t wait for season 2!

Give this show a watch, I promise you won’t regret it.

Anybody really dislikes Yumiko?

Is anybody else absolutely not a fan of Yumiko? I couldn't really put my finger on it, I just knew I didn't like her. Now I've just watched the latest episodes where she keeps berating her brother for not working as a doctor anymore and I feel like that's it - I think she always struck me as someone who feels like they're better than the others. The kind of person who looks down on a brother who's "just" baking cakes. (And I don't feel like it's a matter of "this is the apocalypse, doctors are rare, if you can help, you have to help" - her brother's reaction implies that she's always been like this).

My first impression of season 8 was either shock or being underwhelmed. When Bran was chosen as king I was definitely shocked. But I never hated any of it.

I was open minded about the whole thing. I didn't have a head cannon on what the story or the characters were supposed to go.

After watching through the whole show. I watched it again and it was even better. I picked up on things that I didn't before. It gets better every rewatch.

Mr Inbetween is one of the greatest shows ever made

There are a lot of posts like this for hundreds of different shows, you could probably find a post like this for any show. But believe me when I say this show really is a masterpiece. Mr Inbetween is about a hitman living in Sydney, Australia who other than his criminal career is quite normal and has a daughter, a brother and many somewhat normal relationships which he tries to balance.

The camera work is beautiful, so many brilliant shots which feel organic and clear, you are never confused at what you are looking at and it stays consistent since it is the same director every episode. The pacing is fantastic, even though the episodes are only 20 minutes long each, they manage to fit so much story into one episode and still have a slow pacing which feels organic and constantly engaging. The action is honestly one of the best showcases of special and practical effects on TV in terms of gun scenes. The guns look and feel real, the sound effects are so loud and responsive, windows break and dust comes off walls and you can hear every crunch and crack. When people are shot you hear the bullets hit flesh and the blood looks real. The action feels so real like you are watching a real gunfight evoking a similar feeling to No Country for Old Men. it is an absolute joy to watch these action scenes. The music is dark and gritty and only used when needed and appropriate.

The characters are what truly makes the show, every character is acted so well you really believe them and see them like a real person. They all have struggles and motivations which make you care for all of them. The dialogue is so well written, so many amazing jokes and threatening gritty quotes which are extremely effective. One plot thread leads to another all while feeling like a day in the life story.

The last thing I would like to talk about is mainly for people who live in Australia. I feel as many I know do, that Australian media is heavily saturated with dogshit. We have very little representation in movies and tv shows and what we do have is inaccurate, cringe and stereotypical. This show thoroughly explores the Australian world of crime, and does so in a gritty and incredibly realistic way. The dialogue is so accurate to how Australians speak, similar to The Big Lez Show which some may be familiar with. The land of Australia is shown a lot and you really feel the strangeness and eeriness of the bush. I find most Australian media, people only like it because it is Australian or its good by Australian standards. I can confidently say that this show is far better than any Australian movie or show ever made and can stand up to some of the greatest shows ever made.

I implore you to please give this show the love it deserves.

If we follow the TV show instead of the books, the great, ancient threat represented by the White Walkers and the dead marching north to south were vanquished (in a single episode mind you). My questions is, what purpose does the lord of light and his red priests and priestesses have, now that “good won against evil” and the darkness is now vanquished? The whole structure of their faith seemed to be around Azor Ahai beating the dead with a flaming sword. If the white walker threat were to be ended for good, would their religion fade away too?

What do you think are some of the worst mistakes the main characters of TWD made?

I’ll start with some-

  • Both Rick and Negan underestimated each other at different points in the show.
  • Carl was dumb to hitch a ride on the Savior’s vehicle to try to kill the Savior’s and Negan.
  • Carl trying to toy with a zombie.
  • Dale leaving camp in the middle of the night, alone, and getting killed.
  • Andrea accidentally shooting at Daryl. Actually, everything Andrea did, lmao.
  • Shane underestimating Rick and getting killed because of it.
  • Lori not using protection

It's been few years ago since I finished the show, but I still miss the show. It's a genuinely funny show about a girl moving to a town full of plastic. I love the entire cast, especially Carly Chaikin (who plays Mr. Robot's sister), she was excellent in it. Unfortunately, it got only 3 seasons due to the cancellation.

[No spoilers] How long should you wait until watching another episode to maximize your enjoyment?

I don't want to binge watch but also don't want to wait a year like you'd have to if you watch it when it first comes out. I'm currently waiting a week until I watch a another episode and I'm enjoying this more so than watching one episode right after another.

I'm thinking about waiting 2 weeks if I just finished the last episode of a season. It might be subjective but is there a "correct" waiting period between episodes to maximize your enjoyment?

[Spoilers] It just doesn't add up

I've just finished the series and have my expected gripes but here are the things that just straight up don't make sense to me:

  1. The Ironborne Fleet: Euron Rallied the Iron Islands to create an entire fleet from scratch in what, 2 years? I'm no expert but it doesn't seem reasonable to me that that many ships could be made by that amount of people in so little time. These are decorated ships with beautiful regalia.
  2. The Unsullied and Dothraki Armies: Danaerys wages the Great War with her sub 8,000 Unsullied and few thousand Dothraki. The Dothraki suicide charge into the dead and die within minutes. Scraps come back. They're gone. The rest of the episode is an absolute slaughter of the living, with the open areas of Winterfell void of any life, and a few characters sneaking around the fort trying not to die. My takeaway from this episode was that though Danaerys prevailed, at least 90% of her army was absolutely shredded. Cut to episode 6 where we see her army displayed at the beginning and end. It appears large as ever. Am I missing something?
  3. The Northern Wall: The undead dragon utterly decimated this thing, it was literally gone. Why is it completely "repaired" at the end of the season? That would take literal decades.

If I've missed something obvious, please inform me

Midnight mass is interesting but the sheer number of lengthy dramatic speeches is insufferable.

Not much to say. I am enjoying the show but in these later episodes the characters just drone on and on about. It’s so self indulgent from a writing perspective and makes it feel poorly edited. It just drags like crazy? Is this a hot take? Is this known? Or am I alone here.

What the heck happened to Halloween Wars

So maybe I'm late to the party on this and it's probably already been discussed, but what the heck happened this season? No pumpkin carving, no Todd Tucker, no mystery judges and Zak Bagans just advertising for his museum the whole time? It feels like they sucked the charm out of the show this season. Zak takes himself way too seriously for this to be fun. I know Jonathan Bennett was corny, but it kinda added to the fun. Anyways, just ranting and this sub seemed the appropriate spot. Do I have any other fellow Halloween Wars fans who are disappointed with this season?

Was Shane plotting on killing Daryl?

Was Shane going to attempt to kill Daryl in 2x12 “Better Angels” when Shane asks Rick if he could go on the ride along with Daryl to leave the prisoner somewhere?

“How about you let me ride out with Daryl, give us some time to get to know each other”. - Shane

Rick realizes it and says “nah I need you here”.

Was he planning on killing Daryl because he saw how friendly Rick and him were becoming?

“You wanna take Daryl as your right hand man, be my guest”. - Shane

[SPOILERS] Varys: "I've always hated the bells, they ring for horror. A dead king, a city under siege". Davos, a King's Landing native: "I've never known bells to mean surrender". Possibly worth investing in some horns to avoid confusion?

Tyrion noted they rang for weddings, Malthus thought they were proclaiming the arrival of the true King Stannis. Who knows what people were thinking was happening when they rang after Tywin's death. Seems like it is unnecessarily confusing to have the ringing of bells mean multiple things, particularly when the messages could be directly contradictory, like 'we're under attack, grab your weapons and man your posts' and 'we're under attack, surrender and lay down your weapons'.

[SPOILERS] Tactics used at the Long Night.

Hi all, this is my first post and I am not finished with the show. I just finished The Long Night, and I'm left shaking my head with some of their strategy choices and thought I would open this to discussion.

My first point is their seemingly sparce usage of fire. Seeing as how that should be their main focus to defeating the dead as dragonglass can only be used in hand to hand combat, why is it that there wasn't more redundant measures being used to reduce the casualties? Fire was mainly used in the hands of the Dothraki and archers, neither of which helped the efforts very much if at all, and the pit which was only successful at stopping maybe a few hundred, at most a thousand. If they had taken simple smaller steps, such as arming the walls with some version of a high fantasy molotov cocktail, and perhaps some flaming crossbow bolts, then I think their defense strategy would have greatly improved.

Second, it appeared to me that the spiked barricades in the pit were made with simple wooden poles. Do correct me if I'm wrong, as there are plenty of opportunities for someone to miss key information when watching the show (it's a lot to take in and I don't have my ADHD meds), but to my understanding the only way to kill a walker was with either fire, Valyrian steel, or dragonglass? Wouldn't it had made more sense to line the poles with one of the two latter options, rather than hoping they manage to stay lit during a northern winter? Again, if the armies of men did this then their defense plans would improve greatly, and they would in turn reduce the amount of people put in harms way, as the dragonglass or steel they used would be in a stationary object rather than the hands of a soldier. If they did do this and I missed it while watching, feel free to correct me (severe ADHD, I miss things frequently).

Finally, did they even have a strategy for defending the inside of Winterfell once forced to retreat inside? The only orders given were to relieve the archers but other than that the fight inside the keep seemed to devolve into a free-for-all. I guess at a certain point there's not really any other order you can give aside from kill the Wight walkers, but even then there was no real show of leadership once the fight was taken inside.

I could be wrong on all counts, and I know I'll most likely be chastised by select diehard fans if I am, but as someone who was a interest in large scale high fantasy battles in film and tv, this is simply what I observed. Feel free to build an echo chamber of validity around my opinions though, I'm always a fan of such.

Here's a list of surnames and the regions in which they reside (according to George R.R. Show Andrea is utterly insufferable.

I’ll preface this by saying I’ve rewatched the show at least 10 times and each time I forget how poorly written she is as a character. She’s incredibly gullible and naive and her little story with Beth was stupid at best. This sucks especially since apparently her comic counterpart was a very likeable and strong character.

Her total lack of seeing all the signs of The Governor being a bad guy is astonishing and for me. She reaches her peak of naïveté in 308 where she walks in on Michonne and The governor fighting, with the tanks of walker heads just laying on the ground with walker Penny also laying dead on the floor. She didn’t look around and think “Philip, this is kind of fucked up, why are all these walker heads laying around?”. She just points her gun at Michonne and for some reason automatically thinks she’s the bad person? It makes no sense. She asks The Governor why they were fighting in the next scene and she just trusts him! She just brushes off him explanation like it’s nothing. It’s ridiculous.

Accidently watched Midnight Mass

A friend of mine recommended Midnight Gospel, but I misremembered and instead watched the first episode of Midnight Mass.

Had I read anything about it, I never would have. Terms like 'slow burn' and 'religious themes' and (another word I'll avoid as it might be seen as a spoiler). I generally avoid all that.

Yet, 5 episodes in, I'm captivated. I've been surprised more than once by how something went. The script is normally top notch (can drag a bit for my taste on occasion), and when it is good - combined with truly top notch acting from people I have never heard of before - it is really great. Samantha Sloyan (as Bev) does such great things (closet scene with the sheriff).

Anyway, I like it.
