Josh McDermitt’s acting in S11 E11 was some of the best the show has had. [S11 E11 Spoilers]

His acting in this episode was phenomenal.

That scene with Lance in the last few minutes was so incredible. It’s some of the best since the start. He’s really good a lot of the time but in that episode he was incredible.

The episode was really good imo and I’m starting to actually like Princess.

Did you catch the Easter egg tonite? Spoilers

The record that Jude received from her new friend. She shows Daryl the record and says to Daryl “Ever heard of Motörhead?” Daryl says “that good stuff right there.”

Motorhead is the band of the song that Merle, Daryl’s brother, cranked loud as he could is his final scene, where he used the loud music to lure the walkers. The scene where he knew he was going to be killed by the governor and his people. Merle ended up being a good dude right at the end for Daryl’s group, using that song to help him attract walkers, to help him take out as many of the governors people as he could, therefore kind of making things right at the end.

Cool throwback/Easter egg.

[Spoilers] A Feast for Crows in the Series

Oh boy, I am listening to this on various audiobooks on YT, but every version seems to be flat out boring. The reason for that could be very simple though: Maybe the book is just flat out boring. It feels like that. In any case, I am about to skip this timesink and move on to A Dance with Dragons.

The problem is that Jon, Tyrion and Dany are missing, while Sansa and Arya only get three chapters each. Instead, it's mostly written from the views of Cersei, Brienne, Jamie, Sam and the Greyjoys.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire#Narrative_structure

That's not GoT for me. It's virtually spin-off that would have never gotten any popularity on it's own. This brings me to my main point: Even though the screenwriters arguably made many bad decisions, they managed to cut/cover up all of this boredom and turn it into something interesting in the series.

Edit: I just had a good laugh. At the beginning of ADwD GRRM actually apologizes for AFfC being a total piece of crap. Thank you George. You only wasted 2 hours of my life.

[SPOILERS] What Always Bothered Me About This Scene

Alright, so there's this scene where Dany and Jon ride Drogon and Rhaegal respectively. And it's a pretty cool scene in-and-of-itself. But it's really freaking odd to me that Dany isn't incredibly surprised that Jon can just ride Rheagal so easily.

I feel like it's not established to the same degree in the show but it seems as though it's mostly Targaryens (or at least Valyrians) who can do the whole "solo dragonriding thing" without significant effort (like "taming" the dragon with food first).

So by all accounts Dany shouldn't have encouraged Jon to ride Rhaegal because, as a Stark (in her mind), she should've expected it not to work. And by all accounts when Jon somehow managed to ride Rhaegal it should've set off some serious alarm bells in her head.

And yet she suggest he does it and she kind of treats it as "Yeah, fine, you can ride a dragon now." If anything this is when she should've first realized his true heritage, or at least suspected it.

Anyway, that always bothered me.

Conan O'Brien was involved with the 4 Pillars of TV comedy... SNL, The Tonight Show, The Simpsons, & Late Night (Legacy franchises)

Just randomly thought of this the other day:

SNL is known as the greatest & longest running sketch/variety show of all time. Conan was a writer back in the late 80s.

The Simpsons is the longest running sitcom of all time & is highly regarded as one of the greatest shows of all time. Conan wrote for it.

The Tonight Show is the longest running late night talk show franchise & has that weird Johnny Carson prestige still.

& "Late Night" was the first ever after midnight late night talk show, initially known to be the "anti-Tonight Show". A creative timeslot to try out anything. Plus David Letterman created the show.

In addition to writing, he was an extra in several SNL sketches & even hosted the show once. He also played himself in a Simpson's episode.

As far as TV comedy goes, to be a writer & a performer/host in all 4 of these legacy franchises is pretty rare. I don't think anyone else has done that?

.

What’s your most controversial opinion on the TV series? This can include the plot, directing, fan base, etc.

Here’s mine. Most of the fan base doesn’t like anything. They constantly complain about too many characters having plot armor and that it’s too “unrealistic”. But when the show does kill one of these big characters everyone gets pissed about it.

[SPOILERS] Is there any way to re-write that horrible season 5 plot?

I mean, any at all? Is there any way in the Seven Kingdoms to re-write Petyr giving Sansa to the Boltons in a way that makes any lick of sense?

I know it doesn't happen in the books.

I really cannot think of any way to fix that really stupid decision. Petyr "Loves" Sansa in his gross sort of way and everything he does in season four is done to elevate her and teach her the "Game of Thrones" he's building her up...Only to put her in the worst harm possible. My best guess is that when he embraces Lysa before pushing her through the moon door she poisons him with a little basilisk blood slowly driving him insane.

Other than 'Just don't do it.' can anyone think of a way to make it make any sense?

[SPOILERS] Do you think Tywin ever actually loved his kids?

Like, actually cared for them? Cersei said that Jaime was Tywin’s favourite but Jaime was also the one who followed everything Tywin said with blind obedience most of the time. But to me, he just saw Jaime as a tool to further the Lannister name. He was horribly cruel to Tyrion, and barely gave Cersei a second glance because she was a woman.

But do you think, that at one point, he actually cared about them as his children and not as his chess pieces?

I would love to see a Spinoff TV show about the Valyrian Freehold, but mainly focused on the Doom of Valyria and the Valyrian horrors.

There's something so interesting and mysterious about this inhabited, unlivable (for humans) land which is rumored to be full of monsters, demons, mythical creatures, and "horrors".

I think it would be incredible and so rad to see a "Cosmic Horror" type of TV show focused on the Doom of Old Valyria and the "Valyrian horrors".

I finished the series about a year back. I hated the ending too.

I want to see where G.R.R.M takes the story but its just so long. I read 400 hundred or so and it was nice but i eventually just stopped. It wasn't bad I just started watching the series which is one of the best series I've seen (until the last two seasons).

I have a few question though...

  • How many books are remaining in the series?
  • Can I skip any books cause I have seen the show. I remember the first book being pretty similar to the series but I'm not sure if there were any big differences.

Thanks!

[SPOILERS] Anyone else hated/disappointed by Daenerys’s reaction?

Whenever Visereon was killed I was really disappointed by her reaction. She watched him fall out of the sky like 😳 then just kind of sat there like 🙁, yes I know she might have been in shock but like that’s her child, that’s her baby! If I saw my child killed right in front of me my reaction not me to just sit and stare ahead like 🙁. I think having her hysterically screaming and crying would have made the scene 10000x more upsetting, her reaction is the reason the scene never saddens me. Even when Rhaegal was killed she had more emotion, granted it was anger she felt as she charged towards the fleet but at least we got some emotion out of her lol

[SPOILERS] My Problem With Season 5 So far and the Plot of the Fanatics

Currently watching the scene with Lady Tyrell and the High Sparrow discussing the morals of the imprisonment of Loras and Maergery. This is my first time watching (so please no spoilers), but this arc has so far been one of the poorest for me.

Cersei seems so weak in this arc and her complete relent of King’s Landing to the fanatics is so disappointing. I understand her motives for letting Loras and Maergery get imprisoned, but there is literally no objective reason (as essentially the primary leader of the realm) to support the fanatics at all, which is a perspective for the villains that the show has done a great job with until now (the bolton’s are the same tbh).

I really thought that the High Sparrow would have some likeability when we first met him, but i really dislike the character progression. for context, this show has become my favorite series of all time and i am genuinely completely unbiased in by opinions on it, just thought i’d share the way i’m feeling atm.

[SPOILERS] Fans of the books and the show: which version of Tyrion do you prefer?

After finishing the TV series I decided to read the books and am currently beginning ASOS. While there’s other differences in events/character traits, one of the most notable to me is Tyrion’s character.

Personally, I prefer the shows version of him, and was just curious if this was the popular opinion or not. I thought at first it was just because I saw this show first, but I’m not even halfway through the series and can list some disturbing Tyrion moments that the show chose to replace with more agreeable ones.

I’d love to hear other opinions on this. I like that the show and books are different in some ways because even though it’s the same main plots, you get two different stories (ie Arya cup-bearing for Tywin in the show and Roose in the books).

M*A*S*H re-watching after 20+ years. A change of perspective.

When I was younger, my dad used to watch MAS*H and to me, it was just a war programme on TV and I didn't pay it much attention, then I got slightly older and caught a few episodes in my 20's and was immediately caught in it's world. Around this time, in the UK, I saw that satellite TV was going to begin re-running the complete series and so I began from the beginning, every evening. Bliss! Now, I'd started watching originally when it was Hawkeye, BJ, Potter, Charles so when I started from the beginning, I had to adjust to the 'new' characters, Henry, Trapper and Burns.

In my first watching of the series, I identified so much with Hawkeye - the quick wit, the (mostly) indomitable spirit and his relationships with the other army personnel.

About a month ago, I started re-watching the series for the second time (approximately 25 years later - I'm now mid 50's).

I have found that upon re-watching, the series is hitting me much harder, the sad moments are sadder, the sometimes out-of-place humour much more relatable and the facade of the irreverence of the characters' behaviour - covering up the pain underneath - much more apparent to me. A testament to the writing and the actors.

The biggest surprise to me though is that I now relate much more with Colonel Potter and the parental role he took on with the staff under him. Knowing when to be firm or when to console. What a great character and I think an often understated performance by Harry Morgan.

Anyway, these are my thoughts on a re-watching of MAS*H.

I'd love to hear others' thoughts on their experience of the programme.

All Episode 4s (S1-11) Ranked!

  1. Killer Within - easily one of the best episodes in the whole series. Lori’s death is so well done and the acting throughout this episode is some of the best.

  2. Indifference

  3. The Obliged

  4. Some Guy - a hugely underrated episode. It was so interesting seeing Ezekiel Struggle with everything he’s lost and Jerry was a badass at the end there.

  5. Service

  6. Vatos - another solid episode. The attack at the end was really good, Laurie Holden was just amazing at the end and the Vatos were interesting enough.

  7. Cherokee Rose - some nice moments but overall a bit slow.

  8. Here’s not here - this episode is great for cinematography, acting and development but overall not very entertaining for me. Don’t like Morgan so that doesn’t help.

  9. Slabtown - Beth was a badass. Great to see her develop.

  10. Silence the whisperers

  11. Rendition - just quite bad imo. The reapers are not interesting at all.

I missed this one yesterday so I’ll upload 5s in a few hours.

Station Eleven deserves to win multiple awards.

I'm typically not into dramas but this show kept me interested from the start and just kept going. The writing, directing, acting, and score were fantastic in my opinion. It's the first show/movie that has made me emotional since Interstellar. Bravo!

Edit: Okay I need to clarify since I used a broad term such as "drama". What I meant was a drama that made me feel something deep for the characters. I feel those are few and far between and I should've made that clear in my original post and I apologize. It's not often a show or movie makes me feel that way. But I do love dramas some of my favorites are dramas such as Ozark, Breaking Bad, Chernobyl, GoT, etc.

I think everyone was focused on my drama comment and not that it was very well written..

This scene is still extremely disturbing; especially with the violins slowly getting more maniacal as she drives the pick into his head more rapidly and with indignation from years of abuse.

[Spoilers] When did the TV-series jump the shark?

If you google this question you will find a remarkable number of hits, even from mainstream media. What do you think was the exact moment when it happened ("never" is a valid answer of course)?

Here are my Top 5:

  1. Bronn saving Jamie from Drogon's wall of fire.

  2. The Waif stabbing Arya multible times, the kind of injury that neither Robert nor Talisa could survive.

  3. Euron presenting his new "rock star outfit" to Cersei in the throne room.

  4. Euron (again) hitting a Hail Mary to kill Rhaegal.

  5. Euron (again) claiming that he was the one who killed the Kingslayer.

[SPOILERS] Season 8 hate thread

I'm sure we've had plenty of time to rant about the botched final season, but I think there is more resentment in the air.

I understand that one of the grabs of the show was that you would learn a lot about characters and they would be unpredictably killed, or the story would twist like crazy, which is why I loved every other season. But what fuck nugget/nuggets decided it would be a good idea to shorten the FINALE season and destroy almost every plot line. If their goal was to remain unpredictable then congratufuckinglations, cos no one expected Arya to drop the ENTIRE army of the dead that was being build for decades in the 3rd fuckin episode.

Sick of people demeaning this show.

kind of a rant and I'm sorry for that. but whenever I see some people refering this show as to the 'joke it has become' how 'trashy' or 'awful' it has come to be known as, i rage inside. i understand people might not like the monotonous theme of it, having to see the storyline stretching so far, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the worst shows out there. when those people say stuff like this, it's always to compare this to the other zombie genre movies or series. every series, despite of its similar atmosphere, has a different taste to it. when the season 2 of Black Summer aired, people were comparing it again.

the walking dead has been SUCH a journey to me that's it's hard to explain. the emotional value to it, and the depth of relationships that are conveyed are so beautifully done, it's like I'm part of that family. i think this show really celebrates the idea of family, survival among everything else.

anyway, it's just saddening to read stuff like this. that's all.

[no spoilers] will the books get more exciting?

So I'm currently halfway through the first book and it's all a bit slow. I really liked the slowly building story at first but after 10 hours of reading I expected the story to have already really started by now. Is it going to stay like this?

[No Spoilers] What's the funniest quote / scene from the show?

Edit - show or book.

Besides the hound's stuff with Arya, I have two:

  1. Theon - "I don't care how many arrows they feather me with or how many spears they drive through my gut. I will kill that horn-blowing cunt before I fall".
  2. The second sons captain - "My cock always finds a way".

[SPOILERS] season 8 episode 5 Daenerys WTF

WOAH WTF I’m about halfway through and need someone to feel the betrayal I’m feeling. this is my first time watching GOT Daenerys was one of my favorite characters. girl turned into a villain so quickly. I’m so mad she had so much potential but uses only emotions >:(. Also I understand Grey worm is angry but I feel like he has more common sense than this as well, like he knows she’s killing innocents and he thanked Daenerys for saving him and other innocents. I’m SO ANGRY LIKE GIRL YOU WERE GIRLBOSS TO THE MAX AND YOU HAD TO RUIN IT.

[SPOILERS] Tyene and Ellaria Martell (S7-E3)

So Im rewatching the show and at the end of the scene where Cersei is with Tyene and Ellaria Martell (in the dungeon when Cersei poisoned Tyene) I noticed that the chains they are both locked up in looked loose? Like loose enough to move their arms freely if not straining against the cuffs? If so wouldn’t they be able to at least remove the gags around their mouths? Or wouldn’t Tyene be able to at least wipe the poision off of her lips? I know the poision needs the antidote to cure it but I mean it could’ve done something. Im obviously being over meticulous but did anyone else happen to notice it?
