Just started rewatching from the beginning on Amazon. I really enjoyed this show back in its heyday, and so far it's still really binge-able and holds up well. This show epitomizes the pre-recession, middle class, male millennial mindset perfectly: Move to LA, get famous, drive fast cars, and let attractive women inexplicably throw themselves at you for casual sex.
It's also more apparent than ever that Entourage was always the, "Eric Show." He was always the most self-aware character, with the relate able insecurities, ambitions, and self doubt of most young males.
This show almost surely wouldn't get made post #MeToo, with its gratuitous use of hot, one dimensional females and constant "locker room" talk from the guys. "Ballers" is its spiritual successor, but is relatively tame in that regard.
It's still probably the best show about show business I've seen. It's easy to dismiss it as eye candy, but it's a well written, generally intelligent plot .
The pacing on this show is just spot on. I find myself plowing through entire seasons the same way I did 7+ years ago on my first viewings on the DVDs.
I used to think Drama was kind of annoying, but now that I'm older I kind of relate to his faded glory and age related insecurities. I always liked Ari, but I also seem to more greatly appreciate his character with age. He is pragmatic and calculating, while the boys are naive and impulsive. I think most of us lean towards the former as we grow older.
Other than flip phones and fashion, the show holds up well.
