Why haven’t they invested any time into making walker camouflage?

In the first season they walked among a bunch of walkers just by covering themselves in entrails of walkers to mask their sight and smell.

Why haven’t they thought to try and replicate that without all the mess? Or even just line an area with a moat of stench and bodies a quarter mile away from the camp and a staked wall. I just feel like it’s a huge opportunity. Less drama and more smarts plz
