The reunion I'm talking about, of course, is Arya reuniting with Sansa Stark and Jon Snarkaryen. It's been a long time coming and would be one of the most tear jerking moments in all of television. Looks pretty on paper, doesn't it?
Here's the problem. What happens to Arya after she reunites with her family? You don't actually think that Jon, let alone Sansa, would allow her to keep fighting or do anything even REMOTELY dangerous, do you?
No, Arya would be sidelined by her older siblings to protect her from more danger. Of course, they may not be able to stop her from trying to help, which brings up another issue.
What in seven hells can Arya possibly accomplish in a full fledged battle? I'm not questioning her ability to kill. I'm simply putting out there that all of Arya's fighting skills are those of a covert assassin (as they should be). The last place you would ever want an assassin to be would be on a battlefield. There's no place to hide safely when you're surrounded by thousands of enemies.
That's why I'm putting my own theory out there. Arya will have the opportunity to reveal herself to her family, but will reluctantly decide to remain in the shadows. She will realize that, for now, she can help her brother and sister far more by stealthily killing important people that are enemies of her family. Think about it. It fits perfectly. I can actually see the scene playing out in my head.
Arya looks at her brother Jon/sister Sansa with genuine happiness. Then, just as she is about to approach them, a different character talks about how many enemies they have and how little information they have. She hears how they're running out of time before the true war begins. Arya then decides, with tears in her eyes, to retreat further into the woods, knowing what she has to do. Goodbye Brother plays in the background.
