I got into a back and forth discussion in the comments of a different thread about Howland Reed, so I thought I'd bring it to a new thread.
Is Howland Reed in self-imposed exile since returning from the Tower of Joy?
The only time we've seen him in the show is in flashback. We're told he was one of Ned Stark's closest allies, yet even when Ned is killed and the North goes to war, Howland is nowhere to be seen. He eventually sends his children to pledge allegiance, but we learn from them that their father has never talked about the Tower of Joy. In the book, it's more clear that Howland has never left the Neck since returning from the Tower of Joy, but I'm not sure that's been made explicit in the show.
From the book and show, I'm under the impression Howland has made a conscious choice to remain in the Neck as part of his effort to never reveal Ned Stark's secret. Does anyone else think this?
