When you own a pet, they're basically your child, you raise them, love them and want them to be happy. Ser Pounce was Tommen's "child", which technically makes him the heir.
Did Cersei kill Ser Pounce so he wouldn't sit on the Iron Throne after Tommen's death because he doesn't have Lannister blood or is he alive plotting in the Red Keep? Also, the Lannister sigil is a lion, cats are mini lions, it was meant to be.
Hopefully season 7 focuses on Ser Pounce's claim to the throne.
