Is it just me or does it seem like we have had 42 issues of the comic that have covered events past the time jump and not a lot has happened?
I mean, it's kind of hard to explain. A lot has happened. There were a lot of new characters introduced, a new army of villains, there was some trouble brewing inside of the communities, then the Whisperer War...Negan getting inside of Rick's head...
There was a lot of set up in other words. I have never seen so much of it in my life and it seems like instead of pay off we just keep getting set up and things that I thought were going somewhere going nowhere. I mean, I trust Kirkman. He is building towards something but as of right now, it's still really difficult to see what that is after so many issues. I guess that is part of the fun is that he has thrown me as a reader for a loop as to where this is all going. I'm just frustrated that it's been building up to something for so long without getting that sweet release.
I just don't remember the comics ever feeling like so much has occurred without much having actually happened in the grand scheme of things, and instead of the Whisperer War feeling like a payoff to what was happening before it feels more like a distraction, like that still wasn't what everything was leading up to.
