I'm a new viewer who's just caught up. I spoiled myself enough so when watching Season 6 I knew what was coming. But still, the initial introduction of the Saviors was done well, as were the next few encounters. But the last episode kinda threw me for a loop - there's so many of them! And they're so hyper-competent (following a complicated plan perfectly - a really, unnecessary complicated plan! Whereas before they didn't seem very competent at all (Rick and group won every encounter easily before this).
But moreso, Negan. How does Negan gain that following? Is there any back story to him - no comics spoilers please. How does a seemingly average guy with a baseball bat gain that large a following? Especially when he only kills one (and two) of the people who had killed what? 3 dozen of your people?
Seriously, if I were some random Negan goon, or even a lieutenant, and we go through all that effort, all those shenanigans, in order to capture the leadership of a rival group that had killed dozens of us recently, and we only kill one (or two) of their people? WTF?! Why not kill them all?
In fact, if Negan doesn't want to kill a lot of people but would rather you work for him, why not just kill Rick and appoint your own leaders and then get everyone to work for you? Same for Hilltop and Kingdom too. Why keep enemy leadership alive?
