After so many episodes, why haven't we ever seen an episode where gasoline is treated like a precious, non-renewable resource?

I understand the conceit that gas has to be available, otherwise the stories remain too isolated and small. On the other hand, gas seems unlimited given how often people drive on these shows. Couldn't they do an episode where the gang has to find more gas? Could be cool. Or is it that they try to ignore the gasoline question as much as possible because it doesn't actually make any logical sense? I know that gasoline has a shelf life especially sitting in a gas tank for months or even years.

I'm new to reddit so I don't know if this has come up before, but I'm curious to know what this community thinks about the gasoline problem in TWD and FTWD.
