Captain Holt has gone from a stereotype no-nonsense character to gradually the best character in Brooklyn nine-nine. Is there any other TV shows that have had character's develope into fan favorites?

I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Such a light-hearted fun show. With all the characters being lovable in their own way. But recently over the last couple of seasons, Captain Holt has been stealing the show!! He was originally this strict plain character, the cliche "no-nonsense" buzz kill. But the writers now use that to their advantage and made him one of the funniest characters to an already hilarious ensemble!

Any other TV characters (Doesn't have to be a comedy) who started off nothing special and gradually developed to be a fan favorite?
