I’ve finally caught up on the show, and with that can confidentially say that The Hound is the best character. He has been dealt a shit hand, but still comes out on top as “one of the most skilled and dangerous men in Westeros”.
He defends those that cannot defend themselves. Some examples of this being: he saved Loras from being killed by The Mountain, he saved Sansa from being raped (and most likely killed) by the men in King’s Landing, and I know for a fact that Arya wouldn’t have made it through her travels if it weren’t for The Hound.
Which brings me to my favorite part of the entire show, Arya and The Hound. He protects her (keep in mind, he had no reason to do so), despite the fact that she continuously threatens to kill him (and attempts it). The entire reason that he fought Brienne of Tarth, and almost died doing so, was to protect Arya. They develop, what I consider to be, the best relationship in the show. It was as if he became a father figure to her.
He is such a badass fighter. I personally have a hard time watching fight scenes, but when The Hound is involved, I can’t keep my eyes off of the screen. I think everyone can agree that the “chicken” scene is by far one of the best in the show. Not only is it one of the most memorable, but it also provides a hint of comic relief. In a show as serious as Game of Thrones, it’s a pleasant thing to see.
I could go on and on about all of the things that make The Hound the best character, but his fearlessness, his honesty, and his hidden heart of gold prove it for me.
(This is my first post on Reddit, I hope that I did this correctly.)
