I've never seen this show but was intrigued by the prospect of a crossover. Having seen the ratings for this show however it just seems to be an attempt to save it. The viewership has dropped quite a bit each season so far.
To me it looks like an obvious attempt to use TWD's sustained popularity to rescue FTWD. The crossover will almost certainly happen on the spin off and not the main show in order to get people to tune in to see who they include... thus bumping the ratings.
