The brilliant intro to S03E03 "Teotwawki" (Jeremiah's infomercial) is a great example of FtWD's creative approach to narrative.

In about two minutes, we get all the information we need to be properly introduced to the world of Season 3, and we get it in a fun and interesting way.

We meet the Otto family and learn about the ranch; we learn that Jeremiah has strong, conspiratorial political views tinged with white nationalism, paranoia, and isolationism; we learn that his family has been preparing for The End for decades, and are self-sufficient, well-prepared, well-stocked, and well-armed; we learn that Troy is preoccupied with his own amusement (and needs his father to fix even the smallest problem) while Jake is expected to literally hold the bag; we learn that Jeremiah isn't above manipulating the uninformed and selling an empty dream. All told with a sense of irony and, somehow, humor. Classic show don't tell, and done with concision and style.

In TWD we would have gotten this information from an extended speech or monologue.
