Watching the whole series again made me realize why everyone prefers the old seasons compared to the new ones.
In the begining everyone was in search of a place to hunker down. You never knew what was around the corner, who you were going to meet how many walkers you would have to kill. The group was never put together and that's what made it great. There was not only tension because there was the threat of walkers killing everyone, but there were threats in the group. For instance even though season 2 at the farm was boring and pointless as they were looking for Sophia the whole time. What saved that season was the tension between Shane and Dale, Rick and Shane, and Rick with his dying relationship with Lori. In the current season there is not sense of curiosity. The characters don't seem to care what else is out there, the last time they wanted to explore is when they were going to go to Washington. I'm the earlier seasons they always had hope of finding refuge, now they are staying put in Alexandria. The war has been going on for two seasons now and two seasons too long in my opinion.
TLDR: less exploration, less group in fighting, war has gone on too long
Maybe I just miss Dale and his eyebrows. That could be it.
