My mom and I have this debate a lot. Just wondering what others thought.
Did Walt care about Jesse at all or was he just an unfortunate pawn in Walt's game? He obviously detected that Jesse had a weak mind and could easily be manipulated.
But I am re-watching the series now and just watched the "Half Measures" episode where the episode ends with Walt hitting the drug dealers with his car and probably saving Jesse's life. But the very next episode, when he is trying to convince Jesse that they have to kill Gail, he says something like "I just saved your life Jesse. Aren't you going to save mine?"
And vice versa, I always felt as though Jesse, while he ended up hating getting mixed up with Walt, saw him (and later Mikel) as a father figure and no matter what always wanted to please him with their cooks. It was so sad and pathetic to me that the first person Jesse called after Jane died was Walt. And all of this was probably due to the fact that Jesse's own parents were douche bags.
