“Willard” McGill - the significance of that name

Willard McGill

Given this show’s attention to detail on names, words, colors, etc. and various prior homages by Vince & Peter to Francis Ford Coppola (FFC) in BCS (Examples from The Godfather and The Conversation ), I’d wager that “Willard” is a cinematic nod to Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) in FFC’s Apocalypse Now.

Ironically/coincidentally, Apocalypse Now :

(1) follows Willard’s (and other’s) descent into madness (sounds familiar)

(2) is a narrative on war vs. peace, dark vs. light, and evil vs. good: which are recurrent story/visual themes in BCS (e.g. wolves vs. sheep; “good criminals and bad cops, bad priests, honorable thieves”)

(3)also has plenty of light/shadow cinematography.

EDIT: Maybe Mike Ehrmantraut is also grappling with old memories from classified missions to terminate with extreme prejudice...

EDIT2. - Chuck’s dismantling of his house at the end of LANTERN is also a homage to the end of The Conversation.
