I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a great dude but I think he was an awful choice for Negan.

I've been rewatching the series and I just don't find any Negan scenes very scary. In the comic, Negan comes off as an incredibly intimidating and psychopathic presence because he does such evil and awful things while joking around the whole time.

But in the show, he just comes off as a goof ball which make the scenes just kind of weird and makes me wonder how the hell he got into a position where he's the leader of this whole army.

Some actors can creep you out just by looking at you, like Michael Shannon, Javier Bardem, or Willem Dafoe (not suggesting them for this role). But JDM just doesn't have that creepy je ne sais quoi. For this same reason, the fetishization of Lucille in the show is hard to buy. In the comic, it's much more believable because Negan comes off as a lunatic. But in the show, it just seems like Negan's joking around.

So I was curious how you all felt about this and if you have a different opinion on JDM as Negan, I'm all ears. I just think this was a bad casting choice and he didn't make sense in the role.
