I remember in an interview Vince Gilligan said the number 1 mistake you can make as a writer is to have something happen just "because it would be cool" which i think is what makes it such a great show.
I remember watching the show in 2008 or whenever it aired and the season 1 finale pissed me off so much that it almost turned me off of the show. If you don't know what i'm talking about, it's when Walt storms into Tuco's office and throws that chemical stuff that looked like meth at the floor pretty much blowing up a building post 9/11 to such a degree that it sets off like 30 car alarms and grabs the attention of every passerby and then Tuco, a guy who killed someone just for making an off-hand comment, just decides to laugh and forgive walt because the batch sold so quickly.
First off, i don't believe there exists a solid chemical that can be thrown at your enemies like a poke-ball causing mass destruction... and even if it did exist how did walt not think it would be a suicide mission to throw it at the floor. The guys smart when it comes to chemistry but it's not like he's an ex-green beret who has experience using explosives. I also think tuco's men would have immediately gunned walter down after the explosion but walt holds it up as if he had someone hostage. I actually just rewatched the scene and you would think if you threw an explosive at the ground it would explode the ground but it basically just blows 2 windows out.
And then walt just walks to his car and leaves in front of like 15 witnesses. I don't care what anyone says the cops would be called and there would be an investigation which probably wouldn't be good for tuco to have the cops just poking in and searching his safe.
I don't mean to be a negative nancy and i absolutely love breaking bad and this is the only scene i really can't stand. From the science, the logistics all the way to tuco immediately being cool that this random guy just used explosives in his presence i just find it completely unbelievable. was wondering if anyone else had a scene they thought was a stretch?
