Late to the party, just started watching Community

So I'm old, and my son had shown me a couple of episodes of Community but we finally got around to watching the series from season 1.

I knew it was good, but I wasn't prepared for how good it was. The humor manages to be both rapid-fire and layered, gotta hand it to Dan Harmon and his writing. Of course the performances are fantastic as well, and what a find they made with Donald Glover.

I'm old enough to have seen Chevy Chase when he first emerged as a star in the original SNL. Honestly while I've liked some of his movies (especially Caddyshack) I was never a big fan of Chase.

Anyway, his little clumsy takes are callbacks to his Gerald Ford impersonations from his SNL days. For you kids, Ford had taken a bad fall once while getting off an airplane (or was it getting on the airplane? memory is shot) and so Chase ran with it and played Ford as a bumbling klutz. Like he'd just be talking and then suddenly he'd fall down. I think I read somewhere that Chase would take such hard falls that eventually he was hooked on painkillers.

My son adores Glover/Childish Gambino and I can see why, the guy's ridiculously talented and he's such fun to watch in this show. Troy and Abed in the morning!

I'm almost done with season 3 which was just outstanding. I've heard about the infamous 5th 4th season but I'm going to watch it anyway. Maybe by the time I'm done we'll have the movie to go with the sixth season. ;)
