So, let's say you're in control of GoT and you've decided to ignore Ramsay Bolton's disdainful warnings about happy endings, and instead go all-out with your ideal, triumphant, Return of the Jedi-style conclusion to the series (but maybe with a touch of bittersweet, because you want to maintain some credibility and subvert the odd expectation).
What ending would you choose for each of the characters, having regard to their arcs?
Don't worry too much about the plot needed to get there - after all, the folks responsible season 8 didn't!
(If you *really* hate positive endings, you can always pretend marketing got to you, as they allegedly did with ROTJ).
...
My attempt (did I miss anyone?):
Tyrion: Lord Paramont of the Westerlands and Warden of the West. Tywin turns in his grave.
Jon: King. Turns out to be very good at it, but hates it. Gets to brood a lot.
Dany: Tells Westeros to go screw itself, has brief and passionate affair with Yara and then returns to Meeren, where she forges a new empire with Daario at her side (but she quickly finds that actually ruling is really boring and divests power back to people as she always planned)
Jaime: Married to Brienne, lots of children
Cersei: Dead, killed while sitting on the throne, refusing to yield an inch.
Arya: Exploring the unknown with Gendry, later will become lady of Storm's End.
Brienne: Establishes Sansa's queensguard, then is released when her father dies to become the Evenstar, married to Jaime.
Bronn: Gets the Twins but at the price of an obnoxious Frey wife
Bran: Don't really care? Um...adviser to Jon and Sansa. Used most of his powers to guide the final battle and minimise loss of life and slowly becoming a normal, real boy again.
Davos: Appointed to small council. Retires to his estates with his wife, maybe adopts the little girl with greyscale scars.
Jorah: Died heroically protecting Dany at Winterfell.
Gendry: Becomes the extraordinarily under-qualified lord of Storm's End, later marries Arya.
Missandei and Greyworm: Living in luxury at Dany's court.
Sam: Is discharged from his vows to the Nights Watch. Chooses Gilly over the citadel, inherits Horn Hill, becomes competent and caring lord and writes Song of Ice and Fire in his own time.
Sandor: Mercy killed his brother, retires someplace warm.
Sansa: Queen of the North.
Theon: Died protecting the crypts at Winterfell, surrounded by arrow-riddled undead corpses.
Tormund: Back with the wildlings, fawned over by wildling women who like him, has many more children.
Yara: Having killed Euron becomes Lord Paramont of the Iron Islands.
