New theory: Howard Hamlin will become Jimmy’s main adversary in the end

Beware major spoilers:

In S1 E1, we are lead to believe Hamlin is Jimmy’s main threat. If you recall one of the first scenes is jimmy barging into a board meeting and yelling across the room at Howard “You will atone!”

Retrospectively, in S1 E1 breaking bad, Walt’s ultimate adversary turns out to be his brother in law, who sits next to him laughing, showing off his gun while Walt fantasizes about going on a ride along, “someday”

My theory is that Howard is in love with Kim, and has loved her for a long time. It makes sense if you think about it: he specifically offered (on behalf of the firm) to pay for her education, and gave her a career path with a partner track.

Howard never pursued Kim because he values professionalism and didn’t want to taint either his or her career. After Jimmy started working in the mail room, at the request of chuck, Howard must’ve noticed Kim fall for jimmy. They all worked together after all. This would also make sense as to why Howard has a problem with jimmy. He’s jealous that the “bad boy” got the girl. Howard being in love with Kim would also explain why he lets himself fall apart in season 4. Kim tells Howard off and calls him out for being cruel to jimmy about chuck’s likely suicide. Kim’s total loss of respect for him causes him to lose respect for himself.

I think there’s gonna be some serious love triangle action in the final seasons.
