The characters on Fear weren't scared enough.

I watched the first two seasons of FearTWD as they aired but lost interest by the season two finale and stopped watching. There was always something that just felt off that I couldn't put my finger on, besides a few specific things I disliked that are irrelevant to this post. But, as it was recently brought to my attention that the first two seasons of Fear air before season one of TWD even begins, and the finales of FearS3 and TWDS1 air on the same day...it put it in perspective.

EVERYONE in the first season of TWD was perpetually shitting their pants. There was this raw terror that all the characters had because this situation (the apocalypse, that is) was new and uncertain. They didn't know what was ahead, they just knew it was bad, and they were hanging onto some hope that it would be over soon. They didn't have experience with walkers so they freaked out at the sight of even one. There was a lot of crying and just generally being in a state of horror in S1. Daryl was the only one of the main crew who didn't outwardly show panic, as far as I can remember. And this was 2+ months in.

Ironically, you really don't get this with Fear. We watch them as they watch the world fall apart and they really don't seem all that bothered in the grand scheme of things. Granted, they were in the time where they needed to act and Rick's group circa season one were temporarily settled at the quarry and had time for the reality to sink in...but still. Madison's family seemed to start out with the hardened mentality of Rick's group in season three, even the teenagers. You have a school guidance counselor, an English teacher, a drug addict, and two teenagers who have their shit together better than anyone in Rick's group; two cops, an outdoorsman, etc. Everyone in Madison's family had more confidence and composure than was fitting for less than a month into the outbreak.
