There's something to be said for ignoring a hit series when it was on, and then watching it years and years later

I am only halfway through the second season of Breaking Bad. Not even trying to binge it, just an episode or so a day. Maybe even a skip one or two days between episodes.

I was traveling around the world quite a bit when it was first aired. Whenever I would lay up, and get a job / apartment to save more money, people would always ask what I thought about the latest BB episode. I couldn't say. I would even leave a good friend's house to avoid watching an episode when a group watch party was together (try being that guy), because I knew, someday I would want to watch it.

You can only watch a series for the first time once. Not watching it in the moment when each most recent episode is the only thing other people are capable of talking about lets you take it in on whatever your own terms are. You aren't subjected to every hot take, analysis, breakdown, review, after-show, post, tweet, and so forth. Likewise, there's no impetus to jump forth with your own critique, either: Look at my Grad-Level Thesis Breakdown of Season N!

Haven't seen Sopranos, either. Maybe I'll watch that someday, too.
