It made me root for, and actually feel bad for, Lalo Salamanca.
After Kim's whole spiel to him about not having anyone to trust (which clearly got to him), the one person he decides to let in and legitimately go to bat for (with Eladio) as a friend, not only betrays him, but gets his entire extended family killed -- people who, by the way, seemed like sweet country folk who really hadn't done anything bad to anyone.
That episode was probably the most human we've ever seen Lalo. Just him chilling in his estate with people he loves. No deceit or simmering malice under his words -- just him legitimately contented and taking a moment to breathe. Him bringing Ignacio there is also symbolic of him essentially "adding" Nacho to his family and saying "Hey, you're like a brother to me now." That's made even more explicitly clear when he tells Nacho jokingly that he's "halfway to becoming a Salamanca", and by his worried expression when Nacho is talking to Eladio. He was genuinely concerned for Nacho there.
So for all that to blow up in his face (especially when he decides to do something genuinely kind for Nacho) is kind of heartbreaking -- even though the guy's a murderous cartel figurehead.
I'm still rooting for Nacho all the way, but the way all this has gone down doesn't feel triumphant at all. I think we all wanted to see Nacho take down Lalo after he'd done something horrible. I didn't want it to go down like this with innocent bystanders in the crossfire, and Lalo heartbroken and filled with rage after genuinely trying to do something nice for once.
The irony is that if Nacho hadn't done this, I think his father would've been genuinely out of danger. Hector's in no condition to issue hits, Tuco's in jail/doesn't care, the cousins legitimately respect Nacho after he fought alongside them, and Lalo had started treating Nacho like a real friend/confidant.
The whole time we all thought Lalo was secretly on to Nacho, but turns out he really did like and trust the guy. At this point, I actually want to see Lalo get his revenge on Gus.
