I am currently on S4 - 4x02. I guess most Chuck discussions have died down by now but what is the general consensus on Chuck?
I think the other characters were unrealistic in not demanding Chuck go to an institution. I think some viewers must agree with me?!? No? :-)
Chuck was a nutjob. He was fragile. He was a ticking time bomb and Jimmy's carefree, manipulative nature didn't help. However, Jimmy was the only one to truly cater to his mental illness. But, some people might say he was an unintentional enabler.
All the problems might have been avoided if Jimmy listened to the doctor. Howard tolerated his illness because??? Money? He knew he was messed up but accommodated his illness. They all did. Jimmy probably became darker and more callous because of his part in Chuck's decision to commit suicide. Wouldn't it have been better to be hated for institutionalizing him? Chuck might have got better. Eventually, he finally accepted that it wasn't a physical condition. But, it wasn't enough, obviously.
It wasn't just that condition, he needed therapy because of his other issues. His hatred, envy and jealousy of his brother. Jimmy probably needed therapy too.
I don't think it's realistic that HHM wouldn't require Chuck to seek therapy after his issues. They kinda ignored it or at overlooked it. Perhaps, they underestimated how messed up he really was?
