[Spoilers] Question about 603?

In 603, Jon says that he saw nothing after death when Melisandre inquires. And when she inquired the same for Thoros of Myr, he said he saw nothing either.

thinking about it, doesn’t it go against the religion vs skepticism theme?

In the books, there is supernatural stuff, but they often give hints here and there that there COULD be a god or higher power watching them. The only exception is the seven, who we never get any true sign for. While I guess you could chalk it up to everybody in the book being an unreliable narrator, there’s the whole religion vs skepticism theme. for example, tyrion finds seven poisonous mushrooms he hides and uses to escape his captors in Meereen. Did the seven place them there by fate or was it coincidence. We see with Melisandre that her visions are up to her: is she just bad at casting magic or did she purposefully get a bad vision?

It felt kind of on the nose and against the theme for Jon and Thoros to outright say they didn’t see anything. I mean, if Thoros was just so shaken he didn’t want to discuss it, I could kind of get, but still.
