[Spoilers] Were minor Lannisters considered inferior?

Were Lannisters outside of Tywin Lannister’s close family second hand family members? They are all about family and name, but Jamie killed a Lannister, Lancel was treated like a servant the whole time, and the two Lannister kids killed by Karstark weren’t even mentioned after their death. Tywin always seems like he hates his Lannister staff members.
