I'll throw in a Kim theory.
What if Kim is working for Gus Fring during BB? If Gus kills Lalo, he may see Kim as an asset to his goals of growing a global meth empire. Perhaps he gives Kim the choice of death or working full time for him as a lawyer in his operation. Kind of almost like the choice giving to Nacho. Or almost like a high end slave in the mold of Pinkman to the Nazi's
Perhaps Gus uses Kim's Ice Station Zebra operation for his own purposes. In order to maintain secrecy, he moves Kim to Germany to work under the umbrella of Madrigal. Saul has no say in this and is prevented by Mike from ever seeing her. Perhaps Mike tells him that once Fring has complete his killing of the cartel, him and Kim can rejoin. Of course with Mike and Fring dead and the fall or Walters empire, this reunion has been thwarted. Saul has to flee to Nebraska and hope one day him and Kim can find each other somehow in Nebraska.
