spoilers, season 6 episode 1, I enjoyed watching it as much as the next guy, but

I enjoyed watching it as much as the next guy, but it doesn't make sense at a basic level. To understand this, you have to understand what really happened.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio-class_submarine

A U.S. nuclear submarine, the kind with fuck-you missiles, has grounded it's self on the Texas Gulf Coast, and the idea is that the bounty hunter guy is getting one of the keys needed to launch the nuclear missiles from the guy he killed at the beginning of the episode.

An un-controlled beaching is unlikely, and in the event that a controlled beaching occurred, the keys to launch missiles would have been destroyed. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried the keys, but didn't work because something else in the system prevents them from using them.

  • the most probable explanation is that the missiles were rendered inoperative, and the keys were used as bargaining chips to help whoever had them to survive.

  • a submarine is exactly the kind of place where a zombie outbreak could be contained and over-come

  • worst case scenario, they sink themselves, killing all crew, and leaving nuclear weapons at the bottom of the ocean.

  • without a mutiny, they would 100% disable the nuclear missiles. There's no way you abandon the ship and don't do that in a way you can't un-do it.

  • even with a mutiny, and zombies killing the crew, you'd find some way to disable the missiles

most likely

  • the sub was safe and watched things play out

  • after a few months, once they knew what was going on, they eventually ran out of food

  • given that, they couldn't carry out their mission, and there was no base to return to, so they beached the submarine so that the crew could get out safely.

  • in that orderly scheme of things, they sabotaged the nuclear missiles, not knowing who would eventually control them

  • in order to give themselves something to bargain with, (at least some of) the crew kept up a front about how the keys could control nuclear weapons

  • people died, the keys kept changing hands, but the lie lived on
