What’s with all the “psych” deaths of major characters in TWD? Does FTWD do this, too?

I don’t understand the point of “psych” deaths. It breaks the trust between storyteller and viewer:

Glenn is dead!

Psych! He’s alive!

Rick is dead!

Psych! He’s alive!

Michonne is dead!

Psych! She’s alive!

Morgan is dead!

Psych! He’s alive!

I mean, c’mon...
