The Knick is truly amazing.

Just recently finished The Knick after it became available on HBO Max. Just wow. Seriously one of the best period dramas I’ve ever seen. Clive Owen and André Holland absolutely kill it in this show. Steven Soderbergh’s direction is phenomenal. The score is unique and mesmerizing for show that takes place in 1900’s New York City. The whole premise is so damn interesting, as it showcases how surgical procedures took place as modern medicine continued to advance during the turn of the century. Really shocking how they performed them in such non-sterile conditions given the era. I really loved how well-written the characters are, especially Dr. Thackery. “This is all we are”. Fuck that was so poignant. I also loved how it didn’t shy away at portraying the ugliness of racism/classism during this time of American history. If you can stomach gory surgery scenes and just overall into medical dramas, then I can’t recommend this show enough. A part of me thinks that this show would’ve been a hit if it wasn’t limited to Cinemax subscribers during its run. Really one of the best shows ever made in my opinion.
