I saw another post with an alternate ending for the show which was well written and drastically different from the ending we got. I’ve thought about it a lot since the last season aired and I’ve always thought that the general idea was ok but a few changes would have made the last season infinitely better.
At the battle for winterfell Bran should have revealed that the night kings power was a type of warging, and that he was literally warging into the dead bodies and controlling them all at once. Bran, being the 3 eyed raven can interrupt this connection which is why the night king fears bran and will do anything possible to kill him before Bran becomes strong enough to challenge him. The battle can then play out largely the same, with the focus on keeping bran safe and him being by the tree as it is where his power is greatest allowing him to subtly disrupt small groups of wights at certain times. The White Walkers join the battle as their connection to the wights is stronger if they are closer to them, which gives the main characters some good moments to fight the white walkers with their valerian steel swords, wiping out part of the wight army at key times. Moving forward to the battle at kings landing, I think it should play out similar to how it did, but without such a drastic shift of Dany just going nuts very suddenly. She does attack the city and continues to kill the people until Cersei surrenders because she is a conqueror and these people are standing against her. Jon, seeing the bloodshed and carnage, eventually realises that he will have to lead the 7 kingdoms. Not because he wants to, but because he is the only one he trusts to be fair and just. Jamie, having joined the battle, finds his way to the throne room and speaks to Cersei begging her to surrender and end the madness and she tells Jamie that she will never surrender and that she will blow up all of kings landing using the remaining wildfire. In tears, Jamie ends up killing her in a repeat of the mad king but is overcome with grief and takes his own life in the same way as Tommen. Dany makes a similar speech that she will conquer any of the 7 kingdoms who stand against her, Tyrion rejects her and gets locked away, Jon kills Dany. Jon reluctantly takes the throne, reuniting the people as the true heir, and the king in the north. He names Tyrion as his hand who doesn’t want it, but Jon says that he doesn’t want to be king either but they have a lot of work to do to rebuild the realm. Bran becomes the master of whispers. The other members are the same as the show: Sam is grand maester, Brienne leader of the kings guard, etc.
