[SPOILERS] SEASON 5 WAS A TRAVESTY (Rant)

(I still love and respect the show and it's writing but I still believe in what I said. Also please don't read the post if you haven't FINISHED season 5)

Season 5 was probably the biggest massacre of a viewers investment in a show that could ever happen. And let me be clear, I'm not saying any portion was written poorly. I'm making the argument that there's a point where writing can take a backseat to enjoyment, without ruining the story. There was no need for this season to be so jam-packed with depression with no release. I'm assuming George R. R. Martin made it that sad for a reason, because there's no way this change in mood was accidental. I feel this is worse. While I am a firm believer that you should be able to disconnect life and fiction, that doesn't mean I believe a connection shouldn't be formed. A connection allows for sympathy for a character, that conveys itself to the viewer. I say that to say this. Martin couldn't have had respect for his characters because the things that happened to those characters in this season was a cluster of violation.

The scene that made this apparent was Sanza being raped by the Boltin dude. Since like the second season, the threat of this was always present. And with the change she was undergoing under Beilish, it made sense for this to be the season her "purity was tainted". But in that way? Under that roof? In front of a person like a brother to her? It was very distasteful, and combining that with the other things in the season, it was like I was getting shot over and over again. I want to go through a few right now: House Terell's downfall - A family that was comparable to the Lannisters with full members thwarted in one episode because they found a person who could name a tattoo on him/ Serci Degrading - I don't like Serci and wanted justice for the Terells but slurping water off the floor? Walking through the streets naked? All because of a character that was introduced in that episode decided to. I don't find satisfaction in that./ Aria's Storyline - It was cool for what it was. But it was not needed. Aria's storyline has already been unconnected from the main story for seasons, so her sailing to Bravos, while foreshadowed, felt unnecessary. This could easily be reduced to a single episode's time and not take up more air time than needed./ Marcela's Death - Marcela was the most neutral Lannister in the show that we haven't seen in seasons (for the characters in the show years) and when the prospect of her reuniting with her family, there was a sort of warm feeling. So when she gets killed by people she trusts in an act of revenge for another person being dumb, I can't find justification in that.

Jon Snow dying, and even more, that being the last scene was laughable. It was ridiculous that a season filled with such despair would end with the main character dying in the most grimey way possible.

There are just too many scenes and storyline that are so unfavorable, it's a wonder they felt this was ok to package into one season.
