[Spoilers] how would you write Daenerys' descent into madness

So Ive been thinking about this, as many have. The idea that Daenerys would be driven into madness makes complete sense. The main theme or message behind game of thrones has always been power corrupts, Daenerys is very power hungry. All the YouTube videos I watch in which they give their own Version of how the show should've ended, is with Daenerys not turning evil, and the Night King being the final enemy. Let's say we do rewrite the show, considering most would agree it was rushed. How would you rewrite, Danny's descent into madness, which means in the end Dany does turn evil. Give it your best shot...

[SPOILERS]- Game of Thrones What If…

As many of you know, HBO has greenlit a number of prequel series and spin-off series to Game of Thrones. The most obvious example of this is House of The Dragon, but others, such as a show about Yi Ti and Corlys Velaryon, are in development. Eventually, we might end up getting as many of them as we have in regards to say, Marvel or Star Wars on Disney +

After watching What If… on Disney+, a show about hypothetical events in the Marvel universe, I began to think about something. This would be a fantastic premise for a Game of Thrones type show, which is based on decisions made by characters and political events that could often be easily changed.

A show like this might not be possible. George R R Martin famously hates fan fiction. But still, it’s something I’m interested in. If I were to be in charge of such a show, for one, it would be animated, so that most of the cast could return to their roles (though sadly not all of them, (RIP Diana Rigg, Peter Vaughn, Max Von Sidow, etc.) The first three topics I would tackle would be a situation where Khal Drogo survives and invades Westeros. Ideally, I’d like to see how this impacts the players in the War of the Five Kings, and results in say, a temporary and uneasy Stark-Lannister alliance to chase of the Targaryens. Through this, we would see how these characters who hate each other have to work together to fight a common enemy. The second is a situation where Stannis takes the Iron Throne. There are a number of ways through which this could happen, but Id prefer one through which he has to make an uneasy alliance with the Tyrells, again, showing how two groups who despise each other have to work together. And the third and final would be a scenario where Ned Stark and Cersei Lannister are wed to each other, and how the next few decades of their life goes, and how they deal with one another. After that, I would be interested in seeing scenarios where Renly, Robb Stark, Daenerys, and possibly Rhaegar get what they want, although they would mostly take place years after their conquest and deal with them facing new obstacles (Renly fighting Daenerys, Rhaegar’s war of succession between his children by Elia and Lyanna, Robb dealing with the White Walkers, Daenerys facing a new enemy, etc.)

What do you all think?

TWDU Fight Round 4: Imperfect Mothers

Thank you so much to everyone who voted and commented on the other rounds! The results from the third round are in! Across the main Reddit’s of each WD tv show, Daniel beat out Shane with a surprising 48 votes! I was thinking it was going to be a closer match! A total of 49 votes were logged for Shane and 97 for Ofelia. Now for the fourth round! In a 1v1 fight, who out of these two characters would win? Madison Clark (Fear S1 - S3) or Elizabeth Kubleck (WB S1 - S2) This isn’t about who you like or prefer more, this is about each character’s intelligence, skills, strategies, and fighting capabilities. Please feel free to suggest other TWDU fights for me to post or post your own. Please keep this discussion civil, nontoxic and enjoyable for everyone. This is not a thread to bash the shows. Thanks!:)

My Issue With Glenn and Abrahams Deaths

They got rid of really the only two characters that provided any sort of actual comic relief. Thats about it. They were the only two characters that really had lines that could make me chuckle (besides T Dog and I was pissed when he died as well). You just cant have all these dramatic and serious moments back to back without any sort of comic relief. Making a joke or even just doing something silly from time to time even in dire circumstances is just a part of being human.

Unpopular Opinion: Season 7 and 8 aren't THAT bad

So it's been a while since I've watched The Walking Dead last time. I used to be a megafan, but I slowly started to grow away from the franchise. I stopped after Season 9, so no spoilers for season 10-11 please. I was one of the fans who were comic readers, having kept up with the comics after we Season 3. I remember season 7 and 8 came out to rather negative reception (I'm sure that a lot people like those seasons, but I remember the generally popular reception was negative). It drew a lot of former fans away from the show. I remember those seasons being around the same time I started losing interest in TWD. I disliked season 7 and 8. My favorite arc in the comics was the savior arc and my favorite character was Negan. I was dissapointed how some of my favorite parts of the comics were handled in the show. To be frank, I had quite high expectations that weren't met. I also disliked the writing, which was the most criticized thing about those seasons. Recently, me and my mom started binge watching TWD from the beginning again. It was a while since I've seen watched it, but I remembered most of it so I didn't have too high expectations like I did last time, and we were casually binging it at our own time instead of having to wait for another episode to come out. We're currently on Season 8 episode 5 and I gotta say it's definitely not as bad as I thought it was. I actually think theses seasons are rather enjoyable. Of course, the writing isn't perfect and there's the horrible decision to kill off Carl (an opinion I highly doubt is going to change on the second viewing). There's stuff to critisize, but I feel like that's how The Walking Dead has been since the beginning. Of course it has never been a perfect show, on par with shows like The Sopranos or The Wire or even Breaking Bad. But I still like the show and these seasons. I'm just typing this because I remember a lot of people including me hated these seasons. I was hoping to get the fandom's opinions on these seasons now. Whether they're still disliked and if you think they deserved the amount of critisism it got. Thanks for reading :)

[No Spoilers] Ser Barristons death is the most overhated moments of the entire show in my opinion

He is a 65 year old, past his prime man, who has not been in a fight since roberts rebellion. He is extremely outnumbered, and unarmorded in the scene, he manages to take down a lot of people before inevitably dying. When i first saw this scene i hadnt given it a second thought in regards to people being unhappy with it, and i was shocked when i see how upset people are with it.

Honestly if he would have survived i would have thought it was dumb. People complain about season 8 and how the dumb plot armor made everyone invincible. But then complain about a realistic scene where an old man who is incredibly technically skilled is killed by a horde of people because he no longer has the physical ability that he had in his prime.

[Spoilers] Judegment Calls and mirror situations

Did you notice that what Allisar Thorn did to Jon exactly what Jon did to Daenerys? Both acted in the interest of the Realm, or at least they thought they did. Arguably Jon showed better judgement, but if we consider the Army of the Dead had "unlimited respawn", the wildlings didn't make a difference.

In fact Jon was kinda lucky that Tormund didn't break his promise to cooperate, a couple of days after he raided a village, attacked Castle Black and after Mance Rayder got executed. If we take stock, then everything that Jon did was based on a judgement call, on that he knows "what is right and what is wrong". That's exactly what Daenerys got killed for by him, based on a judgement call.

I love these mirror situations in Game of Thrones, because many characters do exactly the same, but one is supposed to be evil while the other is supposed to be good. Maybe the best example is Arya. She is a serial killer, but like Dexter she only kills "bad" people, and that's why everyone cheers her. The decisions who belongs on her to-do-list are also judgement calls. She is judge and executioner.

[SPOILERS] White Walkers: Satisfied or Not?

They were built up to be a slowly encroaching, unstoppable threat beautifully. That first scene of the show is so memorable and terrifying. Hardhome is phenomenal and really showed you the threat they posed. Even up until the very end, in the controversial Winterfell battle, they were shown to be impossible to defeat outside of killing the Night King.

I remember when that episode ended, I felt disappointed that they were beaten so soon but part of me also likes that they were beaten at Winterfell. I just always imagined that they would be able to get much further south and be a bigger threat to all of Westeros.

The Night King in my eyes should have been the final boss. Maybe I wouldn’t feel that way if Cersei had a better ending or Dany was built up as a final villain more. But then again, Game of Thrones didn’t always take the expected route. I think I’m satisfied that they lost at Winterfell but think it was a mistake not to reveal more about them. Maybe they were saving that for the spin-off about the north that got canned.

Why doesn't Shane get any flak for ruining Rick and Lori's marriage?

Lori gets a lot of hate for ''cheating'' on Rick and ''ruining'' his friendship with Shane, even having memes being made about it, yet I've never seen Shane get slated for his part in Rick and Lori's marriage collapsing. Whilst Lori and Shane are both bad for getting together after Rick's ''death'', if you ask me who was worse, it's Shane by a mile. Let's break it down - Rick and Shane have been best friends since high school. Shane has known Rick a lot longer than Lori so he has a special bond with him, I'm not saying his bond with Rick is stronger than Rick's bond with his wife, but it's up there for sure. Under no circumstances should you ever go after your best friend's partner/ spouse. Shane has known Lori for a long time too, he was likely there as best man for Rick during their wedding and probably harboured some feeling for her, but was obviously never gonna act on it at the time.

We know Rick and Lori were having problems in their marriage as evidenced when Rick tells Shane in the pilot episode, so Shane was clearly waiting for his opportunity. So when Rick gets shot and the zombie apocalypse happens, this was the perfect time for Shane to finally make his move on her. Lori was clearly in a vulnerable state and Shane took advantage of it. First, she'd been having problems in her marriage, which was on the verge of a split and divorce, then her husband gets shot and is in a coma, then zombies have taken over the world and she and her son have to survive, and finally Shane tells her Rick had died. Of course Shane didn't know that Rick hadn't died so we can't really blame him there. Lori was at her lowest point and Shane saw it and made his move on her. She likely rebuffed him several times before giving in.

For all we know their relationship probably started just a few days before Rick's return at the Atlanta camp, not a week after his ''death'' like most people think. So is there any reason why Shane doesn't get criticised for ruining their marriage? It takes two to tango at the end of the day. Shane is essentially a homewrecker but he gets no blame whatsoever. Whenever Lori gets brought up by fans, it's always ''I hate Lori'' or ''Lori cheated on Rick'' or ''Lori was a bad mother'' but when Shane gets brought up it's always ''Shane was the best'' or ''Shane was ahead of his time'' or ''Shane would've beat Negan and the Governor easily'' Nothing said about his part in ruining Rick and Lori's marriage.

[SPOILERS] i spoiled myself 🙂

okayy sooo backstory: im the type of person who sometimes find it hard to get into a serie (specifically epics) so in order to get into game of thrones i decided to watch the first season instead of the book then continue the story by reading the books. At that time was currently subcribed to a 1 month unlimited data, which was about to expire in 2 weeks time. i thought that the promo would go to waste if i started reading the book because i'd get to engrossed with it. so i searched on what season will it start diverge from the book, then decided to watch season 2 then read the third book afterwards.

now im in the middle of reading the third book which is a storm of swords, then got confused on where did rickon go? who is bran with? where is osha?

so decided to search on what happened to rickon, where i saw an article saying that he died at the 6th season, i was shocked because there's still a long way to go for me to be able to catch up with that in the books.

but thankfully i saw an article right below that he's alive in the books BUTTTTT i found out that robb died i was like wtf?

which reminds me that i also spoiled myself that jon snow died all because i searched who davos is and was because am not good at remembering names.

i know i was stupid for looking things up on the internet 😩

[NO SPOILERS] Any effective ways to handle (or ignore) spoilers?

I have come across enough spoilers to believe that it is everyone's fate to die., isn't it? I now don't expect anyone to live a full life. When I get spoiled about a character's death, I just hold myself fortunate enough not to know in which book it came to pass. This is when I'm still reading Book 1, so kindly refrain from spoiling it further.

[Spoilers] What’s going on in the first scene of ASOIAF?

What going on in the first scene of ASOIAF?

In the prologue of a Game of Thrones, Will is telling Waymar the details about what he saw from, what I assume is, the ridge of the wildling raiders’ camp. Smiling thinly(a sinister smile?), Will explains that there’s a woman, a far-eyes, up an ironwood half-hid in the branches. He could see that she wasn’t moving. Where did she go?

I mean later, in his return to the empty camp, Will hears a wolf howl somewhere off in the wood and he pulls his garron over beneath an ancient gnarled ironwood and dismounts. Was the wolf howl a signal? Certainly it wasn’t random. It’s too coincidental.

And if this is the same ironwood where Will saw the far-eyes half-hid, seems likely, shouldn’t he have had more cautious when approaching? And so wouldn’t it have been more prudent to dismount sooner? He never mentions or seems concerned about her. Why? Waymar, likely suspicious, draws his sword and dismounts asking why they were stopping. Will, apparently feeling safe enough, doesn’t draw his weapon and suggests that Waymar put his away. It “will tangle you up”, he says. Will obviously doesn’t feel like there’re in imminent danger.

Next Waymar, his face reflective, pauses a moment staring off into the distance. Is he suspiciously searching the upper limbs of the tree? Is he recalling the smaller details of Will’s observations, remembering the type of tree where Will saw the far-eyes?

The wind blowing, Gared interrupts Waymar’s thinking. What was he thinking? We can only guess. Maybe he’s not sure if this is the right ironwood and so he says nothing. But when Gared mutters, “There’s something wrong”, Waymar seems convinced that Gared and Will are conspiring against him. Waymar’s disdainful smile and his response, “Is there?” seems to be dripping with sarcasm.

As a reader, being privy to the thoughts of our POV(Will), it should be noted that Will never thinks about the far-eyes during the return to the empty camp. Why?

Did Waymar, after not seeing the far-eyes, anticipate that there’d be no one in the camp? Perhaps he did. Upon seeing the camp, Waymar laughs at Will seeing that his dead men have seemingly moved.

Certainly there’s much more going on here than we are seeing. Digging deeper…

Consider this…giving it some thought, it dawned on me that “far-eyes” sounds a lot like fairies. And, if indeed, Will saw a tree-fairy or minor nature deity than this would continue the allegory that I discovered in chapter 1 (Bran 1).

The allegory introduces the myth of Uranus. In the myth, Uranus is castrated by his son Cronos and his testicles are cast into the sea. The blood from that castration rained down onto the earth(Gaia) and produced the Erinyes (Furies), the Giants, and the Meliae.

The Meliae were usually considered to be the nymphs of the ash tree, whose name they shared. The Greek word for ash tree is meliai. According to Greco-Roman mythology Zeus created the men of the Bronze Age from the ash tree perhaps specifically of the manna ash. Interestingly, the Meliae were the nurses of the infant Zeus? Is this what House Royce and Bronze Yohn remembers? Does Yohn remember his ancestors?

The manna ash is a deciduous tree. The term deciduous means "falling off at maturity" and "tending to fall off", in reference to trees that seasonally shed leaves, usually in the autumn. The bark is dark grey, remaining smooth even on old trees.

So we would just need to find a dark grey deciduous pregnant tree with the spirit of a woman to play the part of the manna ash to continue the allegory. How bout the ancient gnarled ironwood with a woman in it? Iron is dark grey. And a gnarl could certainly give us the impression of a pregnant tree.

A gnarl: can be defined as “a knotty protuberance on a tree”.

Yet still we have no idea what’s going on in the ironwood scene. Help?

Unpopular Opinion: 02x13 “Beside The Dying Fire” is (arguably) TWD’s best episode.

I don’t think theres anything not to love about this episode. It’s the perfect goodbye to the Greene’s farm arc, in my opinion. First, it shows the giant herd of zombies gathering up, and why they headed towards the farm, and how Shane’s whole plan, to kill Rick, ultimately caused it. Then we get the panic of them not being prepared for something like this, with everyone freaking out, building up the suspense.

Basically nobody was afraid to fight, for the most part. Hershel preparing to die with his farm, while still putting up a fight. The barn getting lit up is just an amazing scene, aesthetically and in general. The intensity of everyone driving around killing zombies seemingly non-stop, yet the zombies just don’t seem to stop coming.

Then they all start to leave the farm, but all at different times, building up the suspense yet again as to if they’ll find each other. Eventually, they meet up at the highway, then are forced to settle down for the night in the middle of nowhere. Then Rick delivering the iconic “This isn’t a democracy” speech. And Andrea getting left behing which led to one of the best character introductions imo (Michonne).

All in all, it’s such a perfect episode to me, obviously there’s other contenders for the best TWD episode, but this one certainly needs to be in the running, in my opinion.

If I wrote the ending for the show

Daryl and the rest of the group are overwhelmed by the commonwealth soldiers pressing their attack. Daryl and everybody are outnumbered, and lance is looking at an injured Daryl with an evil grin on his face. Lance approaches Daryl in a big field with walkers everywhere. Daryl is the last man standing. Lance then says “You know Daryl, it was never personal. But what I’m about to do now, I’m gonna enjoy it…very much.” Then behind lance a huge army of commonwealth soldiers start to approach. All seems lost when suddenly Daryl hears a voice on his walkie talkie. “Daryl do you read me? Daryl? It’s Rick.” Daryl turns around and a portal opens. Rick and Michonne, as well as Carl walk out of it. Daryl has no words and starts to cry, and Rick nods his head at Daryl. Then more portals open and Abraham, Sasha and Glenn pull up in a tank, Merle and Shane walk out together armed, the Governor and his army from Woodbury pull up, all of the alexandrians that died before like Deanna, Spencer, Jessie, all walk out of portals and then Hershel, Beth, Lori, Dale, Andrea, all pull up in an rv. Negan is injured on the ground near Daryl, he looks up at Rick and is stunned. Maggie sees glen and is crying tears of joy. Judith sees Carl and starts to cry in happiness. Then even more people come out of portals like Noah, T dog, the police group from the hospital, everybody that ever died has returned. Rick was the cure to the virus all this time, and what was in his blood revived everyone back to life. Everybody that came out the portals lines up behind Rick, and then Daryl, the kingdom, Oceanside, literally everybody, get in a big formation behind Rick. Lance looks around at all of them, scoffing. Rick the yells out “we …are the walking dead.” Roll credits

[SPOILERS] Why does everyone think Arya is a boy in Season 1?

I'm starting my first rewatch, and I've noticed that a ton of people see Arya and think she's a boy. I understand why they would be confused later on when she masquerades as a boy, but in Season 1 she still has long hair and people still get confused. The first time I saw Arya, I knew she was a girl. I haven't read A Song of Ice and Fire, so was Arya portrayed as physically more boyish, and this is meant to be a direct interpretation from the book? If so, this seems like a stupid inclusion in the show that is relatively unnecessary. If they felt these lines were so necessary, was Maisie a good casting choice? (which feels weird for me to say, because she's so talented and was able to hold her own with her adult castmates at such a young age)
