Lord Commander Jon Snow made a decision to restore Greyguard and put Janos Slynt in charge of commanding it. This takes place after the battle of Castle Black which means the number of men in the Night's Watch have decreased dramatically. There is a reason why only three castles remain in operation on the wall and that is because of the lack of men. I know the reason Jon Snow sent Janos Slynt to Greyguard was to separate him from Aliser Thorne so they don't continue to plot against their Lord Commander. But that wasn't the main reason for rebuilding that castle since in the books Jon Snow sent another Night Brother in Slynt's stead after his beheading for refusing the command. So what reason and why was it a good idea for the Lord Commander to restore Greyguard at a time like this? Is Greyguard a smaller castle that one man can operate on their own? And after those ten builders were done restoring the castle, were they going to stay there with Janos Slynt or was he actually ordered to man that place all by himself? This time I didn't really understand Jon Snow's commanding decision, so maybe someone could elaborate for me.
