Reading A Clash of Kings and I love how Varys not only wears disguises a lot of the time when talking to Tyrion but he also ACTS different. Normally he’s described as “giggling” but often when Tyrion and Varys are out on the town Varys has a throaty laugh.
I think in the show Varys sometimes wore disguises but he never acted different. And the disguises I remember weren’t very good — like Tyrion doesn’t even recognise one of Varys’ disguises at first because Varys is dressed like a dirty beggar and he smells. This also lends credence/ truth to Varys surviving on the streets when he was younger, as well as made him more interesting.
I think it’s a bit like that scene from the show but with Pycelle — a prostitute leaves his bedroom and then he suddenly pushes himself off from the bed and paces away. Which is very different to how he is normally doddering along. Same goes with the deleted scene between Pycelle and Tywin.
I’m just really enjoying book Varys and wish they had made him act more in the show!
