As a huge fan of the tv show, and a follower of the comics, I was so excited for the advent of FTWD. I didn't mind the first season and a half week by walk, as something that sated the walker appetite. However, I was overall, fairly underwhelmed. I wasn't a fan of the characters or the story-line.
Yesterday morning, on a day off, a friend mentioned starting again, and I thought why not? As soon as I picked it up again, I was immediately amazed at how I took up the characters cause and their story.
When it hit the third season, i admit, i was as hooked in with Madison, Nick, and Alicia as I was with Rick in a similar stage. Furthermore, I genuinely think, based on a running quality, that the third season is amongst the best of all TWD tv seasons.
This may have significant recency bias admittedly, but I am mightily impressed at the ingenuity of the FTWD writers in recycling old plots in new ways and introducing interesting character drama in a way that TWD never could [partially because of the comic route].
