Seems to me those would be relatively simple things to make and would definitely increase your survivability. Way too many people get arm bit and have unhappy endings. And spears help keep your distance from biting and scratching. Not saying you should give up knives , but a spear is probably better than anything that makes noise and worth carrying.
It may sound like a pedestrian question to you folks, but I only just started watching the series a week ago and I cant find much discussion on this with the Search function.
Not talking about medieval gauntlets. Theres only so many museums in America. But lots of things could be improvised.
