Prediction regarding what Chuck did.

There's a lot of talk on this sub about Chuck not having Jimmy in the will, what will happen now, how Chuck's act was selfish as he was lost in his depression, etc, but I have not seen anyone state what my immediate theory was when I watched: Chuck has left everything to Jimmy, and made sure the fire looked like an accident to ensure that Jimmy received it.

Why was Chuck so upset, why did he decompensate mentally and spiral down so quickly when he had been doing better than he had in years? Because he really hurt Jimmy in a terrible way, he knows it this time, and deep down he truly loves his brother, though he can't admit it to himself. Showing us young Chuck reading the story of "Mabel" to his little brother illustrated that for us.

Why did the writers make sure to show us that Chuck has just neatly cashed out his stake in HHM? Yes that could contribute to his mental decline, but as we are shown, it doesn't immediately unhinge him. That is only triggered the very evening he is cruel to Jimmy.

Chuck knows the law, and if he wanted to be sure that Jimmy inherits everything, he would need to make the fire look like an accident. Otherwise, as the two brothers have obviously been having a public feud and legal battle, it could be believed that Jimmy started the fire in order to harm his brother and inherit his wealth. In court it was pointed out that Chuck unsafely uses lanterns on top of piles of newspaper. Chuck was sure to very carefully tap the lantern with his foot so that it would fall in a way consistent with it having naturally fallen over, so that there would be no question in the minds of fire investigators of what happened.

Chuck has lost it and has nothing left. The one good thing he can do as he leaves this world is to make things right with his baby brother. He wants Jimmy to know that he didn't mean what he said. But Chuck's pride would never allow him to say that to Jimmy while he is still living. Chuck's pride hates Jimmy. So he changes the will, and ends his life, as a final message to his brother. Jimmy uses the cash to become the Saul we all know.

Thoughts?
