[SPOILERS] [COMIC SPOILERS] No matter what Gimple's intended audience reaction was, the cliffhanger was executed badly-
If Gimple's intended audience reaction was for viewers to question whether Carl might miraculously survive the bite, (no matter how likely that is, there's a lot of talk about it) that would prove that the cliffhanger was executed badly and that he does not have much respect for the audience.
On the other hand, if Gimple intended to make it clear that Carl would not survive (even with knowing that the audience understands that a bite means death) then the cliffhanger was still executed badly- there should have been more details surrounding the cliffhanger, if for any reason because of what happened with the Glenn / dumpster fake out.
Either way, the whole production of the midseason finale was bad, and it's just more proof that the writing does not take the audience and past experiences into consideration. It also shows that creating a cliffhanger was done for the wrong reasons.
