Chuck's Illness?

We don't know too much about Chuck's illness, but I do believe we all have the same questions....

What exactly is Chuck's deal with his Electromagnetic hypersensitivity? We know it's almost certain to be a mental issue, but why pick a sensitivity to something so specific? Why have that be what (apparently) sets Chuck off? Why does Chuck's contempt for Jimmy manifest in EHS in the first place? Why did Vince decide to incorporate something so strange like that into the show to begin with?

Here's what we know:

- Chuck began developing symptoms shortly after he and Rebecca separated.

- EHS isn't recognized, acknowledged, or backed up by any REAL scientific data and has been dismissed, largely, not just in the show, as relating to the Nocebo Effect, when people anticipate something will cause harm to them even though it's completely safe (As seen in the brilliant court room battery planting on Chuck scene or the doctor turning on something electrical without Chuck's knowledge when he was hospitalized)

- The show STRONGLY indicates that although Chuck may have some very REAL symptoms, the cause of which are not from the electromagnetic fields themselves, but some kind of psychological origin.

- When Jimmy came home wasted that one night, it can be concluded that Chuck's reaction to Jimmy forgetting to leave his cell phone outside is only or mostly a red herring to disguise his contempt he had for his brother in the state he was in, not to mention how looking at the twins' hospital bill only reaffirmed his disgust, which is why, if I'm not mistaken, we don't see Chuck wearing his space blanket until after he realizes all Jimmy has done.

- Chuck's suspicion of Jimmy hiding the newspaper from him is also conveniently placed when he goes out to expose himself to electric elements to find out what's eating at him about Jimmy, which, he also suffers greatly from with his increased symptoms.

- During the Sandpiper case, Chuck isn't really shown much during the phone call he makes to, who's later revealed to be Howard, to have any symptoms, unless this was omitted from view, but it's unlikely as Chuck only really seems to have triggers on cue whenever he notices electromagnetism in public, or when he's had some kind of loss.

-During the Mesa Verde case, Chuck again is shown to apparently suffer solely due to his EHS, all the while trying to reclaim the client he ended up almost losing for good to Kim, again perpetuating this possible connection between Chuck's symptoms being the result of losing something or being bested.

- When Chuck LOSES the client again due to their frustration over the mistakes made with the address, he seeks out a way to nail Jimmy for the incident, which, AGAIN, his symptoms ensue inside the photocopy place, but ever so significantly as he gets toyed with by Jimmy for having the clerk cover for him.

- Couple this with Chuck's defeat in the case against Jimmy doctoring the Mesa Verde address, The issue with his insurance premium skyrocketing because of his behavior, and the fact that that incident resulted in him being forcibly retired from the firm, Chuck experiences the most loss and defeat in his life, most, if not all, at the hands of his brother. Keep in mind, Chuck set himself up for even more harm by exerting himself to be exposed to all his electromagnetism triggers, becoming worse and worse as he tries to get better.

TL;DR (Kinda)

Chuck made a harsh dismissal to Jimmy when the latter tried to make amends that really pushed him over the edge. His whole life, Chuck has battled with feeling defeated, having Jimmy favored by most people and having Jimmy get his way despite doing so under relatively illegal or dishonest circumstances, while Chuck has always flown straight and done the right thing.

What no one ever seems to focus on is that at the point when Chuck starts using the same forms of dishonesty to take down Jimmy, but is still defeated, Chuck enters a torrential downfall in realizing that he may in fact truly be inferior to Jimmy. Chuck's continued failures in trying to do things like blackmail HHM to reclaim his place, only reaffirms his miserable realization.

Feeling like nothing but a failure and a loser, he takes his own life.
