I want to keep this quick, but I only want to say that my awareness through South Park's teachings about the joke structure of Family Guy kind of irrationally turned me off of the whole Seth MacFarlane bandwagon, but damnit I'm glad I went back to American Dad.
It has some of the best joke-writing, even against shows that put out a fraction of the material that they do. And, its fucking characters...all of them have made me laugh. Steve always delivers because Scott Grimes is an amazing voice actor. And ROGER...the genius of the idea of having an alien character. It doesn't matter how grandiose you make him, it's still relevant because he's a damn alien. The gold fish makes now sense to me, but I'll deal with that in time. Both female characters (Wendy Schall always has conviction when she voices Francine) and Hayley is the perfect counter to Stan's character.
This show gives the tools and range of characters to some of the best writing teams I have seen on in adult cartoons today. I love this show and it's versatility. I love the characters on this show's versatility. This show's comedy is versatile. Variety.
