Breaking Down the criticism from the last episode.

There has been a bit of criticism that has started mainly from episode 04x04. I'd like to break it down and see how much water it holds.

  • Pace This show has been a slow pace since season 1. It always seems to have a nagging feeling that it's not moving fast enough. Despite that, the attention to character building and detail generally trumps that. I find it odd that so much attention to that came after 04x04 (Talk), which I didn't consider a slow paced episode, at least compared to many others. I'll grant the show is slow paced, I just can't understand why all the backlash started on an episode that I feel wasn't in least.

  • Not enough Jimmy Yes we know the show name, but Jimmy just got through his brother's death, he's in a transitional phase, and he's not a lawyer. Maybe you could blame the writers for putting him in that position but honestly, some of the slowest things in this show have been "Jimmy sells commercial time", or" Jimmy trying to get old folks to get the lawsuit settled". I felt the stuff with Chuck was the most interesting in the show. But I don't think moving more to the Cartel/Gus/Nacho stuff for the time being is the wrong move. If that stuff were bad I'd grant this. But its not, its been very enjoyable. Have faith in the writers, I don't think there's going to be a lack of Jimmy in this show. He's in a denial, run from guilt phase. So lets see where it goes.

  • The shootout was unrealistic Breaking Bad has always been on or slightly above the line of realism. Mike killing four Cartel guys, Gus poisoning the Cartel, Mike's set up of Tuco could've went 20 different ways in reality, ect.I don't feel this was anymore outlandish than things we've seen in this universe before. You can debate it but, really Walt's luck in Felina (Which I wouldn't change one damn thing about) easily out ranks that shoot out.

When there's a plot hole or something continuity wise (Kaylee) I'm quick to point it out. And the pace is an issue I feel since the show started. I've been through shows that turned to shit (Dexter). There's nothing here that I can see that needs to be worried about currently. And hopefully it never does.
