While I can agree with others that most of the actors who have to speak Spanish in this universe (Gus, Don Hector, Nacho [the latter is decent]) don’t do it very well, there are some that really help boost the authenticity of certain scenes such as Don Eladio, Juan Bolsa (love what the actor brings for this character even though he doesn’t appear often), and Nacho’s dad.
After recently re-watching Breaking Bad and currently re-watching Better Call Saul (only have season 4 left), scenes with the Cartel and Nacho have me thinking of the potential for a spin-off that involves only or mainly Spanish-speakers.
For example a show like Narcos, but in the Breaking Bad universe with the amazing writing that Vince Gilligan has to offer sounds interesting to me. Never seen Narcos but that’s the first popular Spanish drama that comes to mind.
I don’t really know what the storyline would involve, but I do think it would be cool to see side-characters such as Juan Bolsa and Don Eladio have a show where they appear more often. Like I said, I’d love to see what Vince and the other writers could do with a native Spanish-speaking cast and what kind of story they could come up with.
The tension in most of the Spanish scenes is palpable, but sometimes the mediocre Spanish some of the actors display brings me out of it, especially Gus (great actor, bad Spanish)
So does anyone else think there’s hidden potential for a Spanish drama written by Vince and co. or is it one too many spin-offs for one universe?
