First keep the kids and the first 2 episodes similar. Then make the kids group more Lord of the Flies. The children are out of control . They where even responsible for taking out some of the parents . The youngsters may not be as culpable ,but are still guilty.
When the kids betray morgan. They capture and torture him. This leaves hun with a moral choice (killing for survival vs allowing them to continue torturing him. ) The kids continue to play dumb the majority of them still hidden. eventually the group find out how bad the kids are when one of them turns. (Much like in the show) The group now has a moral choice to kill children to rescue morgan or let him die. But without morgan to be their conscience it gets messy.
Eventually the younger children of the group save the day . One of them sacrificing themselves in the process of saving morgan and making the children realize the error of their ways . but not before someone in our main group puts a plan into motion. Using walkers to scare them away but many children die because of it.
At the end of the season there is a rift between the group because of the betrayal. Season ends with all of them getting back and bringing what's left of the children. And the children plotting revenge.
